Frollo having troubles with the fireplace! ;D

Seriously, I've somehow hooked myself onto that film and it's Godly chorus-soundtrack! o___o; WHY IS IT SO WIN-A-LICIOUS AND YET, UNDER-APPRECIATED?!?

I wanted to make the image as loyal to the song as I could. I attempted and attempted a fire!Esmeralda but couldn't bring one out to my liking, so now she's supposed to be the smoke-y one... >_> Not like you can tell...
Also desperately tried to work my shadows and lights good this time but it's really difficult in my traditional colour-pencil methods.
Plus forgot to add sweatdrops on Frollo like I originally planned in my lineart. Aaaand then there's so much black empty space. D'oh!
The many hooded-guys were fun though! 8D And Frollo himself, I think I got him down okay...?

When I was little, I used to fastfwd this scene on VHS. (No DVDs back then)

Why?

Because...It scared the f*ck outta me when I first saw it, and I was too scared to watch it again. X(

Awwwww.

It mostly confused me as a kid. Like I didn't know what the hell was up with it. XD Plus the entire movie used to kinda bore me back then, though we only saw it once when me an' my bros were little Disney-loving tykes! *now it's mainly just me*

It must be something to do with a combination of the ominous latin chanting, the spooky giants in the red robes, the fact that he's singing about his lust for Esmeralda driving him insane and the terrorfyingly amazing musical score which is why it scared me sh*tless as a kid. XP

Ahhh, viimeinkin paikkasin tietämykseni ja katsoin tuon elokuvan. Mahtava kuin mikä, onneksi en lapsena nähnyt tätä koska olisin luultavasti saanut traumoja O.O (Mufasan kuoleman yms jo ennakkoon arpeuttama).
Ja Frollo? Loistava. Ei yliluonnollisia voimia mutta sitäkin julmempi ja itsetietoisempi.

It has it's fanbase I know, but Disney itself tends to put it on the "often ignored"-list.

Or I dunno... Maybe I just don't lurk enough.

ElenaTria In reply to silversister [2008-07-25 23:12:25 +0000 UTC]

Often-ignored list??! WTF???! Just because Esmeralda isn't one of those silly "Princesses"?!
Disney.... pffft... they never knew when they had something *really* valuable and original in their hands.....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silversister In reply to ElenaTria [2008-07-26 20:33:37 +0000 UTC]

That's actually quite true. I'm very puzzeled about them pimping out their new crap *High School Musical and some of the new cartoons and movies for one* while it was their old material that really touched the majority of this generation. I know you gotta move on in life, but to completely ignore like it never happened...? =____=;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaTria In reply to silversister [2008-07-28 22:27:08 +0000 UTC]

High School Musical? So bad, huh?...
And yeah, like... Pirates of the Carribean???! WTF???!! I'm sorry, but I'm so NOT a fan of the trilogy, I just don't get it, why it's so popular and all...
They ignore HoND like it never happened, eh? GEEZ. I hadn't noticed that, maybe because I'm SO into it that I just don't notice what people say (or don't say ). It was a major box-office hit here in Greece back then (I can't say the same for Hercules, we found it totally insulting.... )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silversister In reply to ElenaTria [2008-07-30 18:03:40 +0000 UTC]

Pirates IS rather over-rated... As movies they aren't all that good, I'm personally on it for the characters for one! XDDD *wh00 for Norrington, Pintel and Ragetti*

Only attention they ever gave HoND was the sequel, and that only had the purpose of shining over with positivity and child-friendlyness the first film was all but about.
And LOL, Hercules's actually my favourite, and throughout its excistance I've been rolling my eyes at the complainers of the myth changes and all, but shamefully admitting I didn't actually think about actual Greeks and their thoughts on it. Must've been too americanized for your tastes, eh?

And it's odd, since they REALLY payed attention not to offend the chinese with Mulan. Maybe out of the experience with you? XDDD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaTria In reply to silversister [2008-07-31 00:48:41 +0000 UTC]

Gee, I know fans like Norrington, I don't know about the other two... Did those guys even get enough screen time?...
They gave attention to the HoND sequel???!!! What happened in it?..... Did they soften the edges??.
Hercules is cool. I'm totally in love with Woods' Hades. And I looove the songs. This film is a modern American myth after all, what can I say?
But if not greeks, WHO were the complainers of the myth changes?!
Too americanized, yes, in the sense that.... we just don't get the joke. We can't see Jimmy Stewart in Hercules, nor Barbara Stanwyck in Megara, nor an athlete's agent in Hades.
You sure they didn't offend the chinese with Mulan???.. I mean, she doesn't even look as if she's THAT chinese.... I don't know, magic crickets, funny ancestor ghosts, dragons and all...
Experience with US???!!! Believe me, they could never give a crap about us. I remember a greek journalist in an interview with Alan Menken, and he asked him why he didn't use A BIT of greek music in the score, say bazouki music, instead he used something totally irrelevant, gospel music, and Menken was "down on his knees" saying sorry sorry sorry in a parallel universe I would have used greek music..........

What???! What's to apologize about?! As if!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silversister In reply to ElenaTria [2008-08-04 17:08:58 +0000 UTC]

Pintel and Ragetti? They're these two. And they got more screentime in the later sequels, so it figures you don't recall them all that much.
And I've been actually smart enough to stay away from HonD 2 so far, but I hear it was about this band of thieves arriving into Paris to steal this super-special-awesome bell from the Notre Dame, and Quasi falls in love with one of their girls. The cheesy trailer of it is enough to keep your five mile distance. xP

Well, the usual fans and extemists of course! Who else can make more noise and complains than the "old school and original"-fanboys? I know the Americanization can boil your kettle too much, but sheesh, even well after 10 years people just can't STFU about it. -______-; I had never heard of the Menken interview though, kinda akward for him to be explainng himself to actual Greeks about his freedoms with the music... Must've just really loved the idea of black women singing Gospel more than actual Greek music. O___o;
No, I heard Mulan was a major block-buster hit and very liked in China. I heard some of the only ones mad about the movie were super-feminists, but it's kinda hard NOT to upset them, you know? XDDD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaTria In reply to silversister [2008-08-05 00:14:18 +0000 UTC]

And these two have fans...... >siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh<
Steal the BELL of Notre Dame??!!!!!
Ok, these people are pulling scripts out of their asses....
What's old school and original???! The Black Cauldron?!..
And what? Those complaining about the Americanization are actually Americans? Or others?
Well of course, why should he apologize?! To a journalist?! "I'm a bloody composer, I've made my choice! Yeah, of course it's odd for a Greek, so what?.."
Why were super-feminists upset by Mulan?!!..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silversister In reply to ElenaTria [2008-08-05 16:28:10 +0000 UTC]

By old school I was referring to the original myths-fans, and how they can't get over the changes Disney did...
Plus most Disney-fans HAVE called Hercules the milestone that ended the quality era of Disney-films since the Little Mermaid.

And the feminists were upset about her having to become a man to be able to do the heroics that she did.
Pffft, she just wore the mens uniform *obviously* and got a bit buffed by the military-training. The wittyness she used against the Huns were there since her days and life as a woman, so once again; WTF extreme!feminists? WT flippin' F?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ElenaTria In reply to silversister [2008-08-29 15:55:10 +0000 UTC]

Oh well, changes.. If they don't like the new Disney they should stick to the old (like I did) and stop complaining.
Yes... Hercules was indeed the end of it all....
Yeah, the thing about extreme feminists is that they aaaaaaalways find reasons to complain. What a sucky way to live!.. Well, wtf, it's a bloody chinese fable, what was Disney supposed to do? Change the whole story so as not to upset femininsts?

Holy crap this is awesome! I love this song, especially how "Heavens Light" is the interlude, FANTASTIC DUALITY. And you are fantastic for capturing Mr. FreakMan Frollo at his creepy stalker glory... pre-passing out in front of the fireplace from that last intense note.

Applause all around.

Indeed, on the finnish version of the song [say, why not peek out of interest when you get the time? Mr. Ossi Ahlapuro was the best pick for Finn!Frollo they could've ever made! ] at YouTube people made comments how the "hideous monster" sings about falling in love with her, while the "honoured judge" sings about either letting her burn or selfishly claiming her completely...

And I had NEVER even thought about it like that!

Thanks for the comment though darling, you flatter me so! -n___n-

One of the prettiest songs Disney has ever made too.
I think the most impressive part in this picture is the large group of hooded figures behind Frollo and the Smokerella. Lovely sense of atmosphere too. Gives you almost a sense of claustrophobia as you look at the picture.
