Left to right: Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and AppleJackA little more diverse than how everyone else makes them....Seriously, the point of the series is finding friendship from all walks of life...and then everyone humanizes them so they all look the same.
Hardest one to draw was Twilight, she had like 3 different sketches.
EDIT:For those of you asking me why I made Rarity black. ITS BECAUSE I WANTED TO. Because I thought of Rarity that way. Honestly if that question even crosses your mind, you really need to question what kind of person you are. I notice I don't get any remarks about making Pinkie Pie or Applejack white. Now why is that?
OTHER EDIT: I am getting really tired of people asking why Pinkie Pie is pleasantly plump. Why do you ask that like its a bad thing? I mean people come in all different colors, shapes, sizes, etc...Seriously, broaden your horizons

I think it's actually refreshing to see headcanon gijinkas that are so diverse. I see too many pictures that depict them all as milk-white and skinny as twigs. I mean, if that's how your seriously envision them, fine, but I personally like to see more diversity among them. I's not very interesting when they all look like clones of each other, just with different eye and hair colors.
I envision Rarity as white, but that's because I imagined that she is of (the Equestria version of) European descent, specifically French. However, that does not give me a reason to put anyone down for envisioning her as any other race. Nobody knows what race they're supposed to be. I think EqG dodged a bullet by making everyone's skin their fur color. Nobody is right or wrong with race/weight/etc. headcanons because they have NEVER been specified. (on a side note, I also envision Rarity as transgender)Β
Girls (and boys, actually) in society are expected to look and behave a certain way. It doesn't help that a lot of franchises for young girls portray most or all of the characters as inhumanly skinny, and sometimes all of them white. This is why eating disorders are so common (over 20 million women and 10 million men, and that's just in the US). It's why so many girls today think they're ugly because of their weight or skin color, because society teaches them from the moment they're born that you're not worthy of existing unless you fit the cookie-cutter mold.Β
Yeah, how dare you have diversity in your imagination, how dare you depict non-whites and anyone with over a 13% BMI as beautiful. How dare you treat people who don't look like the girls in the magazines with respect, and as fellow human beings.Β
I'm fortunate enough to have been born thin and white, but no matter where I look, I always see the people forcing beliefs on others on how people should act based on their skin color and what genitals they were born with. There's very little I hate more than prejudice, and I hate it even more when they force their prejudice views into franchises that were MEANT for depicting diversity. Isn't that what MLP is about? Putting aside your differences for friendship? I can't believe some of the comments here. It's nauseating.Β

Impressive! I admire your artistic integrity and the way you made them look like realistic humans. I definitely see them as humans in this way.
-I do like the idea of Twilight as African-American; I can see it most with her devotion to her studies & her hairstyle; it definitely works.
-Pinkie Pie looks great with a more full-figured & curvy shape; it adds to her cheeky personality & that big grin is definitely her! She could have Celtic &/or Central European ancestry.
-You really captured the reticent, demure personality of Fluttershy. I always thought of her as Northern European or mixed-race, mainly 1/2 Indian & 1/2 Caucasian.
-Rarity can be tough to pull off, but you did capture her elegant demeanor here. She could definitely be black, specifically from New Orleans, where it's possible that she could have some Creole ancestry. I also pictured her as maybe mixed race based off her name, meaning that I saw her as 1/2 French & 1/2 Chinese. Given that both cultures have a strong appreciation for the visual & culinary arts, it's a possibility.
-I can definitely picture Rainbow Dash as Latina, you nailed it here! The confidend smirk she has is perfect! Doesn't matter if her hair is shoulder-length or pixie-cut, it still shows off her athletic, go-getter personality. She kind of reminds me of Michelle Rodriguez: cool-headed, edgy, but still feminine and loyal.
-Applejack is perfect as Caucasian with freckles & a hint of tan. Perfect look for a straight-shooting girl who's born & raised on the Oklahoma/Texas panhandles. Nicely done.

Pinkie is always eating in over half the episodes so in my opinion it is only logical that she would be bigger than the others. I think the plump Pinkie is more representative of her, and besides, it doesn't remove any of her fun qualities. Love plump Pinkie.
It sure is weird to see Rarity black. Visually at least, though her personality fits. Their coats and always showed as the color of their clothes, which makes it mandatory to draw Rarity with white CLOTHES. As for her skin, sure, why not!
And I totally agree with Fluttershy's hair hiding half of her face, that's what any shy person with long hair would do.

I like those too, I remember seeing Asian Rarity once and I thought it was nice(once there's already an Asian fashion designer who has a similar hairstyle)
