May I present: Crystalis, Queen of the Shadowlings, ruler of the Crystal Empire!

It's a mix of King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis of the Changelings, so this new race / character has parts of both designs and stories. They live in the Crystal Empire, can turn into shadows and use only dark magic, that's (and their creepy appearance) let the ponies think, they're evil. But in fact they're a very caring race, the shadowlings collect love from the ponies for the Queen, who uses the magic of the love to protect the whole hive. Only the queen is able to use that love, she gets this ability from the crystal heart. Is the hive without a queen, the crystal heart gives its magic to one shadowling and transforms it to the new queen. This is very painful, the amount of magic is too much for a shadowlings body and blasts holes into it. Since every Queen has to suffer this damage in order to be able to protect the hive, all shadowlings respects her very much. The shadowlings doesn't feed on love, they eat crystals (I got that from that mouth licking of Sombra, as he got closer to the crystal heart). They are able to live in crystal houses, because the crystal heart lets grow more crystals than they need. There are rumors Queen Crystalis holds ponies as slaves, but that's a sad misunderstanding. Ponies who live in the Crystal Empire are accepted in the hive. They work like any other shadowling and get all they need to live... Or all a shadowling would need to live. The shadowlings aren't aware that ponies can't eat crystals, for them are apples, hay, grass, and all stuff a pony would eat, just things they don't care about. They give the ponies crystals but no normal food, but they think they treat the ponies well. They even try to protect the ponies. If a pony tries to flee, they get them back - the pony feel imprisoned, but they just can't let the poor creature try to get through the blizzards all by themselves, they don't want the ponies to die out there.
For the ponies outside the empire - They don't really care about them. Some shadowlings collect love from them, they just hide somewhere and collect the love the ponies emit while interacting in positives ways with each other. But if the ponies would become a danger to her beloved subjects, the queen wouldn't think twice and attack to protect them if necessary.
