haha, guess i am lucky
they are very pretty as well
i got the regular colour, so that'd be brown with black spots
but parts of it have this golden shimmer when the sun is on it
it's very very pretty
they've been sick though, unfortunatly enough
they are fine now, but still, they gave me a scare haha

Sick? Oh poor babies D:
I'm glad they got fine again!
I read somewhere that the brownish colour corresponds to their mature form, while pink is still neotenic, and they get browner as growing adult, is that true?
I love the dark coloured ones too anyway, they look like Toothless on Earth and that's just awesome xD

yeah, they gave me a scare, haha
nah, that doesn't sound right.
also, they are ALWAYS neonetic
allright allright, so
The pink ones are the leucistic or albino versions, while the brown ones are the wildcolour ones
there are also orange types, but that's probs just a colour morph
as for a the neonetism, that's a genetic mutation they got long ago so that they can't fully mature their lungs
aka, they can't come on land and keep their more aquatic form
hence the external gills, which usually only larvae would have
i think so anyway
and i believe toothless' design is derived from axolotls
i mean, how could it not, haha

Yup, that makes sense!
And how long is their average range of life?
And how do you feed them?
And now there's the serious risk I spam you with questions about them hahah
But they're just so gorgeous, I can't resist to ask you xD

haha, i guess so
well, from what i've heard, they can become 20-25 years old
and i feed them with tongs!
my mom works in a hospital, so i got those things that you use to help put in stitches, hahaha
and i don't mind the questions
i've had them for 4 years now, so i know a bit about them, haha

Wow, long live the axolotls! :') Good to know!
And what's their favorite dish? xD
I've read that they love things such as larvas and pieces of light meat (chicken, ect.) but I don't know...
I know that someone even feeds' em with newborn mice but that sounds quite horrific, still I know they're typical food for cold blooded predators Β Β

haha, yeah, they can become quit eold
well, i feed them heart, rainworms and bloodworms.
The one wiht the most correct nutrition for them would be the bloodworms and rainworms.
I usually stay away from straight up light meat that is meant for human consumption
and i guess newborn mice could also work....maybe?
like, pinkies could be fed to them
and they are carnivores, so eh
they basically eat anything that's meat+ fits in their mouth

SilverWolfi In reply to Marl1nde [2017-10-09 20:45:41 +0000 UTC]
Yup, I didn't think about the fact that certain kinds of meat are basically meant for human consumption and might not be the best thing to feed them with
Newborn mice are thought to work also for stimulating the axolotls' instinct or something like that
But I guess bloodworms and rainworms are perfect without killing hundreds of mice xD

Marl1nde In reply to SilverWolfi [2017-10-11 19:26:09 +0000 UTC]
eh, it happens
stimulating the axolotls instinct?
dunno how that would work
it works with live bloodworms though
and yes, they are perfect
and probably much easier to produce than mice
then again, mice breed so fast
eh
i'll leave the mice to snakes, haha

SilverWolfi In reply to Marl1nde [2017-10-12 07:44:33 +0000 UTC]
Predator instinct, I think;
like, they feel the presence of a certain thing and they're more motivated to reach it and catch it;
Meaning that you don't directly feed the axolotl but you leave the mouse in the water and wait for the axo to find it, and that should be very fast being the rodent a strongly stimulating prey.
But these are all things I've heard. I can't state if they're true or not xD

sounds kinda weird to me
thye don't react as well to static objects as to moving objects
then again, i've seen them attack my plants....
silly creatures
i love how i tried feeding them some vitamin pellets
and the males were like ''ok...?''
and the female was like
''NOPE'' and just spewed it out hahaha

plus, feeding them is a blastΒ
