Pangaea: Isokell, crown princess of Kayalana, and her grand-uncle Rannon, the fallen tyrant who once ruled the kingdom.

“I missed you.” She allowed her fingers to trace delicately up the sleeve to his shoulder and down his chest. Rannon caught her wrist in a tight grip. Isokell lifted her other hand. She followed his other arm up to his face. Her fingertips danced lightly across the familiar planes and lines.
“You’re most persistent,” Rannon said, grabbing her other wrist and holding both of her hands in his. “That has always been one of your more irritating traits.”
“You might say what I am now I learned from my teacher,” Isokell said with an impish smile. Her smile faltered as a thought crossed her mind. Daring both her father’s anger and Rannon’s rejection, Isokell dragged him close.
“What is it now, child?” Rannon asked testily.
Isokell smiled. She stood on her toes and placed her lips hesitantly against his. Rannon was too startled to react. He released her hands, allowing her to wrap her arms around him. She deepened the kiss.

Rannon grabbed her arms and pulled her roughly away. “No Isokell,” he said in a rough voice. “This isn’t right. Your father, your people, they could never accept this.”
“Can you?” Isokell asked, her voice soft and low. “Can you accept this, Lord Rannon?”

Rannon fell silent. His hands lingered on her shoulders. “Even if I wanted to I wouldn’t,” he said finally. “I can’t. For your sake, I can’t accept it.”
“Can’t or won’t?” Isokell asked.
“Both,” Rannon said.
“I love you,” Isokell said, her voice now nothing more than a whisper. Rannon heard her though, and his grip tightened. “I’ve loved you since I was a little girl. I’m not a child anymore, Lord Rannon. I have the right to make my own decisions, a right you showed me I could have.”
