Jotaro by his own means could never defeat Dio, however, he was given the means to achieve the power that the eternal enemy of the Joestar lineage boasted so much.

The battle was seen by the Guardians, who tried to keep reality in one piece while looking for a safe way to intervene in the fight without ending up pulverized and erased from reality.

Erased in that battle over heaven.
