Description I really shipped these two by the end of the game. Yup. I finished Legend of Kay Anniversary for the Switch a little over a week ago. Too bad I didn't finish this piece sooner.

I wonder why this game has been released so many times and that they don't just make a sequel already.
For its era, this PS2 Classic title was fun. Its combat system hadn't evolved in the anniversary edition, but regardless, I had fun. The combat may have been repetitive at times, but at least the enemies got harder and varied enough to keep it interesting with each map.
The weapon selection had their fun features. The functional wolverine claws that strike like lightning, the mighty hammer that crumbles enemy armour, and the well balanced sword.
And the boss fights, they got easy as soon as you find out how to defeat them (except the final boss. I struggled to beat the second half because after being knocked off and losing a heart, you had to start the entire fight all over again). As repetitive as it was, I enjoyed every second of it when it wasn't game breaking, but just my own damn fault.
The biggest thing I have to complain about is the boar and wolf riding segments. I would have preferred them to be free roam mounts rather than being treated purely as a racing mechanic.
Other things to complain about is that it plays too linear and with no chapter mode. Again, in a sequel I'd like to see it open world. These maps were fun to explore and well done regarding its era, but I'd love to see a sequel where you can revisit maps in case you missed something. Thankfully you can buy anything you missed in the shop. Then again, it defeats the purpose of exploration. Again, this is where an open world map would be super useful.
The story is honestly the best part of this game. Usually the conflict invades the peaceful nation during the game. Here, the invaders already have taken over our heroes home, and they're lying through their teeth and saying things like "We will protect you from now on. Surrender your weapons. Those of you who don't are terrorists." And lots of these people actually fall for it, but our heroes ain't buying into any of that. That's where this game shines best. I got annoyed when I fought off Boarax (love the word play on the soap product) on my second play through, and the woman I grabbed the pumpkins for gave credit to the villain for Kay's efforts. They treat Kay like a kid (which he is, but more than so) except for his master, Su Ling, and the animal villagers he saves on his journey.
My second favourite thing about this game is the comic book style cutscenes. I love these cutscenes. I adored the way they were drawn.
The humour this game promised was existent. However it wasn't so each time Kay called a Rat warrior or Tak the rat alchemist 'cheesebreath' or some other rat nickname generalized with cheese. That got old really quick. Other than that, the game mostly had its comedic moments.
To me it's an average game with immense potential for a sequel. I'd love to see more of Kay and Su Ling in a new game. If it can happen, then make it so, because I'll be waiting. You know what else I want to see? More weapons (like a spear and a bow), unarmed strikes (YES! We want to smash pots without the requirement of a sword!  ), more enemy types, more combat moves, more maps with an atlas and an over world (possibly even open world), more magic powers, mounts that you can roam freely with, and there's so much more I can request, as long as it's fun and has a great story.
