Beautiful! You are crazy-awesome with water, especially in acrylic. I wouldn't have the slightest idea of how to work in acyrlic. Maybe you could give me some pointers some time!

Thank you very much I just break everything down to simple lines.Everything you look at has lines that stand out from the detail that give it it's shape or contours.I put those lines down first and block in color. If I'm using the color from the tube I only use a small amount at a time because they dry fast.If I'm mixing colors I have to use more and sometimes I mix the colors on the canvas as I'm painting. Then I just start layering color, dark to light or light to dark and background to foreground and finish it off with the smaller detail and highlights.I use a lot of different size and shaped brushes depending on the space to cover. If the paint is drying too fast you can dip the brush in a little water or use a misting bottle to give it a fine spray.I hope some of this is a liitle helpful. If it's not helpful at all I'd be happy to answer any questions you have,if I know the answer.Sorry this is so long.

Ha, hence the name "simplelines"! This was helpful, thank you! I know I'm going to keep this comment in my messages for a bit. It should be useful in the future- I'm so used to oil paint and watercolors!

simplelines In reply to jinxedbyemily [2008-03-07 01:07:14 +0000 UTC]

Exactly That's how I came up with the name. You're very welcome,I'm glad it was helpful.I use to work only in oils up until last summerand I thought I'd give acrylics a try.I really like working with them, especially if I need a painting done in a short time frame, the drying time on oils is sometimes too long.

simplelines In reply to Dabull04 [2008-03-04 21:21:45 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much David I just break what I'm looking at down to the simplest lines. There are lines that stand out more than others in everything. I try to block out all the detail and just focus on the few lines that give it substance. Those simple lines go down first to give it shape or a place to start and I build it from there.

i got a couple of drawings to finish off then i'll have another go at the paints, i have loads of acrylics but i'm not sure how to use them as they say they dry pretty quick on the pallett

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

simplelines In reply to Dabull04 [2008-03-05 01:28:55 +0000 UTC]

It's easier to use smaller amounts of paint with acrylics. If they start to dry out you can always dip the brush in a little water. They do dry faster. You get the hang how much paint you can use before it dries out after using them for awhile.I started out using too much, so I was wasting a lot.

Aww! Thanks! You still have lots of time to finish it, but even if you don't get it framed I hope you'll still enter it.It looks so amazing although the frame with the grasses and rocks give it a great added dimension.I entered mine today and it's up.

Oh my gosh I have been working on burning a huge brush pile for the past few days, my son helped me today for a while so we got a lot done, I also knelt down on a scorpion and got stung, it felt like a wasp sting! I've let the fire burn down to coals and now I'm getting ready to wrap up some venison roasts and some chicken and bury them in the coals to cook, it's just like deep pit! YUMMY!

simplelines In reply to Rhed-Dawg [2008-03-07 00:54:18 +0000 UTC]

Wow! You've been busy. That's a lot of work collecting all the brush and piling it on the fire to burn.Good for your son for helping you with it.Isn't it dangerous to get stung by a scorpion,I 've always heard that their sting can be life threatening.I love food cooked that way. Oooh! Yummy!!!

Rhed-Dawg In reply to simplelines [2008-03-07 01:11:27 +0000 UTC]

I'm so pooped out today, the pile were burning is huge, so we have to drag out a little bit at a time, it's all tangled and some of it is wet, we've been using the quad to drag the big logs to the burn pile, were about two thirds of the way done, but tomorrow I'm taking a day off from the burn pile. I was so happy for his help and he didn't complain not one time! The scorpions that we have are small, they can be bad if your allergic to them though, at first I was a little freaked because I am allergic to bees, but other than a little burning for a while this wasn't so bad. I have all the meat buried and cooking as of 4:30, I'm going to fry up some taters and steam some veggies and call it dinner!

simplelines In reply to Rhed-Dawg [2008-03-07 01:21:49 +0000 UTC]

I'll bet you're worn out. That a lot of heavy work. You have a good son to help and not complain.
That's a relief that the scorpions aren't deadly, that would freak me out. They are cool looking but I always thought they were dangerous.Maybe there are other kinds that are.Your dinner sounds scrumptious, enjoy!

Rhed-Dawg In reply to simplelines [2008-03-07 01:24:47 +0000 UTC]

I also did the dishes and swept and mopped the kitchen, so as soon as dinner is over I'm going off duty! Some scorpions are deadly, the one that stung me is just dead! I squished the heck out of him1

Serves him right for stinging you.I think you need to take tomorrow off and do something nice for yourself.I do believe you've more than earned some relaxation.

Rhed-Dawg In reply to simplelines [2008-03-07 13:35:33 +0000 UTC]

believe it or not when my hubs was helping me dig out our food, he pushed the coals in a huge pile so if it's a burn day today, I'll have an easy time getting it started again, I told him that I had planned to take the day off from burning, he said if it's a burn day I need to work the pile, I said not if it's raining, he said to just wear his rain gear! What a poop head, I'm not doing the burn pile today, it's hard work and it gets me so tired, also I need to work on the laundry, he said that I can work on laundry while I do the burn pile. Surprise for him, I'm not touching a single thing to burn today!

simplelines In reply to Rhed-Dawg [2008-03-07 16:32:27 +0000 UTC]

A definite poop head Seems kind of pushy for someone who's not out there helping you you haul that brush around. That's hard work and wears you out separating all the tangles,
collecting it all into a pile and then putting it on the fire to burn. You've been doing it for two days,I think a break is in order, especially when you still have other things to get done.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rhed-Dawg In reply to simplelines [2008-03-07 17:13:37 +0000 UTC]

I'm still in my pj's and I'm not doing the burn pile, it's been out there for two years, it will wait a little longer! I even went back to bed for awhile which is way unusual for me to do, it felt good but weird to just lay snuggled under the covers doing nothing!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

simplelines In reply to Rhed-Dawg [2008-03-07 17:25:03 +0000 UTC]

Good for you! It's great to do that every once in awhile.I've done that from time to time although I have the weirest dreams if I fall asleep during the day. If the burn pile has been there that long it'll wait a few days,it's not like it's going to walk away or anything. What's his sense of urgengy for you to do it.It all gets done eventually. You'll put your back out if you keep working on it without a break or you'll be exhausted and have no energy for anything else.Pooh,
it can wait!!
