Description Is no longer a concern of mine!

Hello lovelies! How are you? How was your holiday/new year experience? There's a feature thing happening at the end of this journal full of personal ramblings, so feel free to skip to the bottom if you'd like!

Changes, changes, changes! Chronologically, I suppose, I've decided to undertake a scary prospect. Get a day job and use every spare bit of time to create! Writing, art, dancing, everything I can, I will. Because physics? Not for me. Don't love it as much as I need to for the hell of grad school. So I'm looking for a job. For a place to move. Philly is currently one of the top contenders. All I need is a tiny apartment with electricity. I won't have my car. I'll walk everywhere. I'll continue to be vegetarian (or close enough, curse you deliciousness of sushi!). I'll take a little room and make it my home, rather than what I did for the last year and a half, live in a room and treat it like a hotel.

Anyone looking for a roommate? Know a job opening in Philly? Or selling a tiny, not-overly-expensive apartment? Anyone? Anyone at all?

Speaking of, anyone in the NJ area want a pair of rats? They're the nicest boy rats ever, super friendly, will give nose rat kisses, and will happily greet you when you walk by. Come with a giant cage so they can be happy and at home in it, a crapton of toys, and a starter kit of food and bedding and everything you'd need.

Next next next..... Ah, yes. I feel I should mention why all my free money is not spent going to conventions anymore. It's spent going to swing dance events instead! Because I am obsessed. With good reason, but I'm going to try and find a balance between my love for the two, and the way I spend my money.

Speaking of art, I find myself constantly searching for inspiration. The things that used to work years ago have somehow lost their luster, and no one is sadder for it than I. So, please, if you comment, many recommend an artist on dA that you find inspiring? It'd help me so very much

Last but not least! You! I'm doing one of those "first 10 people to comment get a feature in this journal" things because why not? Stolen from TheCrowchan , a most amazing person of amazing, and I'll update the journal once I have the 10 features written out!

RULES!
1. For each of the 10 first people answering this journal, I will post their avatar and the three deviations I like most from their gallery on the list!
2. If you answer, you have to do the same in your journal, putting the tagger on the first place. The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone!

To start off, and not counting towards the 10, the inspiring lady herself!

1.
Because wow, awesome! I love the expression andΒ Β the way the shading is done, and the incredible amount of attitude coming from that drawing. Outfit design and the curve of that leg! Made doubly awesome because I remember Crow from years ago when we first met and I love seeing her improve - this work immediately had all of the things I loved about her style, but also a clear and easily seen proof that she's leveled up.

2.

Mature Content

Because expressions! Because faces and characters and punching Hitler! Subdued coloring and gradients and ORANGE. It's hard to pick favourites from an entire gallery, and I'm not quite sure what prompted me to do this particular work over any other - I saw it in the thumbnail and thought it awesome, opened it up and was proven right. That's reason enough for me!

3.
So, this is in the middle of an entry, in the middle of the tournament, in the midst of EVERYTHING. If you're not familiar with Survivor: deviantArt, then my words to you are simple: Go. Go now. Go read everything still up. You'll see why I picked this page, plain as day. Don't read the rest of this description right now because spoilers.
I remember S:dA very, very clearly. I remember the characters and friends I cheered for, the stories I followed fanatically, how much I loved every entry, every artist, every story line. However, this right here is the first thing that comes to mind any time that tournament is mentioned. The last few panels of this page are so iconic to me that they've forever molded themselves into association with every part of that tournament. The idea that Hunter would be possessed by Endling 's sins was astounding. The way they manifested to help him continue to fight was really cool. Seeing them so well-characterized was incredibly rewarding, especially since I'd been a fan of the sins for long before S:dA took place. Those last three panels on that page were positively chilling. In every way it spurred me forward, eager to read more, to see more. I've reread that one round, those last few pages, every time I idly think about Hunter, or S:dA, or Miss Crow, or anything even remotely connected to it. I think I might have said all this when the entry first went up, but I honestly don't remember, and I'm positive I didn't say it this coherently. I love those panels, Crow. I still get shivers when I think of Hunter's last line on that page. When I see it in my mind's eye. And that makes it my favourite thing in your gallery, and rightfully so. <3

Nice to know you are doing ok. When you say NJ Rats, you are talking about real rats right? Oh yeah if you are looking for inspiration, take a look at these Deviant Artists:

Kai-Isolated [link] Nixoo [link]
Kai does a lot of artwork while Nixoo comes up with some interesting stories, and these two tend to work together.

Kevinbolk [link]
This guy is a comic artist. He tells his life through comics and he also has comic based which is based on Super Mario the game (which I like).

nanohikakou [link]
This persons art is kind of dark in nature but when you see this persons artwork you will be thinking "What goes through this persons head" (not in a bad way)

One of my favorite artists on dA is The way she is able to put color, emotion, and beauty into all of her works, especially the oekaki ones, amazes and inspires me to try to do the same... even though I rarely use color. Still, I love the swirl of different colors and speedpaint-ish feel she has.

Another thing that always gets me in the mood to draw is looking up sketches of artists- I love looking through the sketchy, unfinished "art dumps" people sometimes put up. It's like getting a look into the artists head, which I love.

.... *counts* .....
GREAT. I'm not in the top 10. Also, just as an FYI... you remember what inspired you to draw years back.... it was PHYSICS. XDDD man I have to nail my arm to the table to stop myself from doodling on my notes. But when I have a break? No way guys, no art for me...

Also what helps is getting frosties with me at Wendy's. And then doodling there. Get some real life artist friends, in other words!

Oh and what also helps is drawing hot people. Take something that's you think is hot and draw it. Like today, I drew a nice pair of girl legs on my quantum notes and before I realized it we were already on the next page and he had gotten a simple function related to n from a giant integral with a lot of variables.. No idea.

maaaan, SA. That bringsback memories hahaha. I feel so bad about that, I can do so much better now, I wish I could get in a time machine, go back, and just draw all my pages for myself. Crowchan did amazing, I was really rooting for her.

I'm already doing this after posting in Crow's as well but once I do a feature journal I'll add you as #2.

As for artists you might not have heard of before, a couple I came arcoss that I'll recommend are ~jchanders and *incredi . I'm really into landscapes and J takes some beautiful scenery pictures. Incredi also does a beautiful job with her photos and lighting/photo manipulations.

Aa, I'd totally take the rats if I was in the area, rats are adorable. Hope you find a good home for them (and one for yourself).

And features sound neat. c: I might wait a little on making a journal of them myself, until I get my sub back so I can use thumbnails, but yeah.

Good luck with getting your "Art groove" back. I know how it is to lose it.

And A feature list? I haven't done one of those in some time. So challenge accepted!

It always makes me happy when I see creative people also involved with the sciences, even if Physics turned out not to be a grad school subject for you. I'm a mechanical engineer by degree, myself.

Best of luck with the move and job search! I know you asked specifically for artists, but have you tried a local history museum as an inspiration alternative? The last time I was low on creativity, an exhibit on Genghis Khan got my mind working again!

EEE Swing dancing!!! It's soooo much fun! I love it, I've recently gotten into blues dancing too.

I'm happy you're so excited about where your life is headed Ree. Making a decision and a change like that can be as you said, very scary. Not many undertake it for that reason and end up with the 'what ifs' and less happy in the long run I think.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but what works for me is looking through (good) stock galleries. I find so many wonderful images that inspire me. Even if I don't use them for reference, just seeing the expressions, poses, and dynamic nature of some of the stock really works to get me in a drawing mood.
