in Norse mythology Nidhogg was the dragon who sat at the roots of Yggdrasil (the world tree) and gnawed on these roots, damaging the world tree. for this reason he's considered evil.

my version is not evil. he is a shapeshifter (hence the human form here) and was created by Ymir (who was a really bad man) to be a perfect warrior and weapon of death but Nidhogg refused. as a response Ymir broke Nidhogg's wings. they healed all wrong so they are useless now.

he's not a fan of people, which is why he lives in the misty icy world of Nifleheim far away from any sane person. his only friend is Hel (goddess of death and queen of Helheim) and has sworn his loyalty to her and her kingdom
