JPEG does a picture like this no favours. I think it would look much nicer as a 24 bit PNG. That way, the colours would be much more sharp and distinct.

I could, but making it .PNG would nearly tripple their size, it went from about 120kb to just under 300kb.

True, but even speaking as a dialup user, 300kb isn't that big. Images of that size appear here routinely.
It does look like a nice work, though. Reminds me of Microprose sims I used to enjoy.

Yeah, but I'd rather just use .JPGs, it'll be too much of a hassle to convert them all to .PNGs and wait 3 times longer for each one.
