Description "Such is the nature of the Golems. That the greatest warrior in the world is a paralytic, the greatest painter in the world is blind, the greatest musician in the world is deaf." -Commander Kiore

Erratule Guerriero (Italian for warrior) is viewed by many as one of (if not the single) most skillful and powerful fighters on the planet. He was thrust into the annals of Guardian history for his heroic actions in the Dark Guard attack on the fifth-realm city of Cineve. The battle seemed lost. Though both Guardian and Dark Guard forces were relatively small compared to the massive armies assembled at the major cities of Retra, the Guardians were sorely outnumbered. They could do very little against the larger tide of enemies except hold their ground on the docks of the harbor town. The Dark Guard swept past these valiant efforts as water passes around rocks in a river. A full unit of fifty war automatons marched through the city streets and alleys, firing upon every being in their path. Innocent men, women, and children desperately ran for their lives to escape the rain of lead. Such is the way of the Dark Guard during an invasion. Descend upon a town, destroy all resistance (usually meaning all the inhabitants), cannibalize their resources to further fuel the Dark Guard war machine, and move on, leaving nothing left but a broken shell. But before even a single innocent life was lost, a Golem leapt from the roof of a two story building, right into the war automatons' path. The half ton mass of forged metal landed on the street as lightly as the most delicate bird. It slowly stood up again, raising to a full seven feet tall.
"Ko gata aerc ell feno neth" (your grisly work is finished here) It declared in an echoing, silvery voice. The lanky Golem then tore into the hapless automatons. With blinding speed and astonishing strength, Erratule decimated the mechanized regiment. Fifty war automatons defiled the streets of Cineve. Only eight limped back to the main Dark Guard unit (a war automaton unit, when operating independently from an engineer, is programmed to retreat when their numbers fall to 50%) , none returned to the Dark Guard landing ships.

This astounding Golem body, in fact, has the mind of a comatose boy, lying in a bed in a Guardian hospital sactuary somewhere in the fifth realm.
Erratule Guerriero's biological body was born paralyzed from the neck down, a victim of a form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (which afflicted the physicist Steven Hawking) that attacks those afflicted during fetal development. It is a miracle that Erratule survived his own birth. His parents, seeing that their son would be paralyzed and bedridden for the remainder of his life, took him to the Guardian Golem-makers. Master craftsmen though they were, it still took nearly six seasons to successfully forge and inscribe a soul core (a highly specialized arcanian engine that draws its massive energy from the very life force of its user, to which it is specifically tailored. They produce an astounding amount of power, but the extreme degree of difficulty in its creation and the fact that its user's consciousness is permanently bound to it until either the user dies or the core is destroyed has allowed only five functional cores to have ever been made) The instant the final rune was inscribed upon the surface of the gleaming sphere, the infant Erratule's mind was forever bound to the soul core. He developed much like a normal Attal (human) child. The Golem-makers forged rudimentary parts to be attached to the soul core and added them with a sense of timing similar to the growth of a child. Erratule's developing mind learned to accept the Golem sense instead of his own five natural senses. His motor skills improved with each new plate of armor added in "growth". When Erratule reached nineteen seasons old he began to take an interest in martial arts. The Guardian form of self defense and the defense of others. Not only was he gifted, a child prodigy in fact, but his Golem body made his martial arts more effective. A block was made by painful steel forearms, a punch was made with a steel fist, and a kick, even at his young age, could smash through a solid sheet of the same iron used to make most Dark Guard armor. When he reached sixty-five seasons of age, the Golem-makers allowed him to oversee the development of his own permanent Golem body, forged from an intricate alloy of several superhard metals. From this upbringing came the Guardian defender Erratule. There are those who call him the greatest warrior in the world.

"His form is impeccable. His skill is incredible. His speed is incomprehensible. His body is impregnable. His strength is unmatchable. His spirit is unbreakable, yet I've seen meaner souls in songbirds." -Commander Kiore

A ton of work went into this and it shows!

I absolutely love this picture, along with its backstory.
You HAVE to write a novel.

I love the perspective on this. Even though it's fantasy, it's a good reminder that no matter what restrictions are forced on your life, you can still become someone great if you put your heart into it. As I said before, I look forward to your fiction just as much as the visual art. Splendid work.
