Description Inktober day 29 - United
#inktober  #inktober2017
The idea was of a family united, as members have returned home.
Maybe for celebration or for a period of mourning. They have come back to the ancestral home.
Early autumn, which is also a returning. A circle, a cycle. The wheel and all.
I am glad we are close to the end - Inktober takes a toll.
I want to make some maps again.
Cheers,
J

Heheh, it is quite inspiring to see so many little details drawn on a single image.
I find it relaxing.

You are welcome.
This makes me think you have been drawing for a considerable amount of time, mind.

Great work as always, John! Your inktober work ahs been fantastic and really inspiring. I just love the view and vibe you've captured in this piece though. A true fantasy castle rising high into the clouds!

Hey Greg and thanks
Glad to see you over here.
I don't get to show a lot of this work on the Guild, which is a shame.

Yeah, I don't come on here too much, but I'm trying to get more active as there's so much great art around here.

I'm sure the Guilders would love your Inktober work even if it's not directly mappy so, if you had the time, uploading on the General forum might not hurt.

Seeing all your pieces really has inspired me though, and I'm hoping to get underway with a Mapvember this month so hopefully I'll be uploading a bit more of my own work.

Oh, and even if Inktober has now come to an end, I still want to see all these fantastic ink pieces from you every day.

This is a fantastic scene, with an especially impressive castle with those charming vertical curves in the conical roofs and even some of the outside walls. It gives a more majestic feeling and perhaps even makes the compound seem even bigger. (By the forest in front, plus the windows and their size, it's pretty clear that this place is pretty big to begin with.) I also love how the castle seems to emerge right out of the hills and forest, as if those are actually part of its roots. Yet it also has clean edges and delicate shapes, adding a bit more contrast to nature without clashing.

The scenery is pretty terrific too, and with some nice fluffy clouds drifting by to give the background more life. (The birds are pretty cool with that too.) As always, the little details, like studs on the roofs, tracery, flag, etc. lend more of a real feeling; I find myself thinking about the massive planning and effort involved to build a place like this (or any of the real castles in difficult places.)

The stylized border is nifty too, but is it meant to have some special purpose or meaning? The other little details, like rocks and faux frayed edges, add a lot of charm too. Thanks for another great Inktober fantasy.

Thanks FS
There's a little guard up on the big tower's wall to give some perspective of size.
There are two big cathedral-like windows. I guess the others might be large too, for a medieval castle.
I have been called out before for using a bit more glass than would have occurred, at least here on earth.
No special purpose or meaning to the border.

They did take a while.
Maybe 3 hours? Maybe 2. Can't recall.

Thanks Paul That is the third border.
I had to erase and redraw ones previous.
I felt better about this one.
