Louisville is rapidly growing. While only a few months on since the start of the project, the expected growth and population boom from the combined efforts of the industrial parks and the "Pan-American Canal", from Louisville to Chicago, it will bring industry and commerce to the nascent city- transforming it from a frontier capitol to a prosperous example of a Columbian city. The nation is slowly recovering from the Lost- though they still terrorize the nations frontiers and attack asylum guards. Progress on a cure has been slow- so for now all once can do is to keep them under wraps.
Columbian military efforts have gone much more successfully than the Lost's curing. The blockade of the Yucatan's ports and impressment of sailors has led to the discovery that the Illuminists are behind it all. Those rotten sauerkraut bastards. From Jackson to now- they attempt to bring down Columbia. When questioned however we couldn't find any reason why the Illuminists were behind the shipments. We haven't done much to them save what the rest of the world has done- watch on in awe and horror.
Further campaigns at the Kalahari colony have continued, a temporary alliance between the powers of the Sub-Congolese region, putting aside our squabbles and unifying against the threat at hand. Meanwhile further action has been taken internally. Walls at important chokepoints, loaded and armed with guards. Said guards drafted from the surrounding colonial territory- all together forming an impromptu army. And yet the desert shivers out of fear and chills. The first towns and hinterlands being attacked by the Horde. The most infamous being Fort Orange, in which before going silent send only one message to the governor- "The walls are a mix of blood colored purple, black, and red. If you had told me there was stone under it all I would not have believed you. They have stormed our barracks, they have stormed our halls, our quarters, and our yards. They take through force and unlike any other army they do not come to kill- they come to take you alive- the most horrifying prospect of all."
Ogden Edison meanwhile has received the funds- and a little bit more than needed to carry on his Landships Project. The first of which- Leviathan will be ready for warfare- so he says- by 1845. But numerous issues have come up. Firstly the engines- they're either giving out half an hour in, running out of fuel, or some other problem. Secondly is the weapons. Only a single piece of artillery and a firing slot on the front? A well placed cavalry charge could mean the vehicle is trapped, or more horrifyingly a nicely placed 'barber shot' could whack the gun off the Landship. Finally is the exhaust. Related to the engine problems, but also a problem for the crew. If the engine dosen't give out in half an hour, then the crew will soon follow- either passing out, suffering heat stroke, or getting poisoned from inhaling fumes. We'll need to fix these problems if we wish to have a viable and also terrifying weapon.
Finally, after heated quarrel between Houston, Crockett, House, and Congress- the decision has been made. To make a "Dual Presidency" from an emergency interim, to a fully-fledged permanent fixture. While many worry about doubling the Presidency, others have rebutted that in ancient Rome and other duarch-based societies, the two executives would balance one another out and lead to a co-operation on issues of bi-partisanship. Once more a dual executive systems allows for halving the work or spreading it out, lessening the stress of the Executive and consequently allowing for less rash and heat-of-the-moment decisions.
Columbia has changed drastically through the Lost epidemic. But through it all she has not lost herself. Indeed, she has never faltered.
Columbian Armies Ready- 4

/-=-=-Military Affairs-=-=-\
1. Fix the Engines- The biggest problem with our Landships is obviously the engines, they're still primitive and unfit for machines as we've planned. What we need is to expediate engine development.
(The Leviathan will be able to function longer and faster. Pursuit of engine development will allow the Landships to move around faster.)
or
2. Gun Cult- What we need to make the Leviathan a truly unbeatable monster is to attach guns to it- one on the left, and the other on the right- with this power we'll be able to attack on all sides.
(The Leviathan will be expanded to hold two new Colt Cannons, pursuit of the 'gun cult' will allow further weapons development for the Leviathan.)
or
3. Pipes and Plumbing- Exhaust and smog is a problem for the occupants, causing continuous operation of the vehicle to be impossible beyond maybe an hour.
(If exhaust is pursued, occupant survivability will come to the focus of vehicle design, either that or possible 'automation'.)
4. Push Further Out- The slave rebellion's re-radicalization has stalled thier advance, they're trying to negotiate with the Brazilian states to end slavery. But it is clear the Brazilians will not falter on thier outdated traditions.
(The slave rebellion will end negotiations and launch an attack on all fronts.)
5. Black Rifle Company- A few Freemen and Colored folk desire to form a volunteer force down to Brazil to help in the liberation and promotion of democracy in South America.
(A force of 10,000 Blacks, Coloreds, and abolitionists will be sent down south to help the struggle of the oppressed from the oppressors.)
6. Acne Proof Solution- A bit stupid and outlandish, but Bradley Acne has proposed a solution that has some merit. The Lost- while mentally deficient do have a few 'leaders' that lead the hordes, and the Lost generally follow them. These horde leaders are still incredibly stupid though.
(Many of the road signs and landmark directions will have thier directions swapped by the South African Citizens Corp, confusing and giving the Lost the slip- or at least for a while, but enough time to evacuate any civilians and set up defenses.)
7. Evacuate Negerfalle- Otherwise known as "Blackfalls" in English, this small German colony while not much, does have an impressive armory if only to defend against possible Columbian or Portuguese aggression. The only problem is that Negerfalle doesn't have many people to defend itself with. By evacuating the towns population and armory towards Columbian territory, we can hold off the Horde easier.
(The Southwest African Army will evacuate and help move the Negerfalle armory to Columbian territory where it could be used to bolster the walls and our armies.)
8. Draft the Sailors- To allow the South African Citizens Corps (SACC) to be expanded and more mobile in the defense of the colony, we should draft a few of the sailors that come to be the Kalahari will be impressed into the defense of the colony.
(The supply ships running to and from the colony will have a quarter of thier sailors impressed into the colonial defense. This will allow crews to operate between skeleton and normal capacity.)
9. Every Town a Castle- Strategically important towns will be fortified with walls and defensive structures as to allow for easier defense of the colonial holds- plus it can be used to defend against possible native raids.
(Towns with populations over 1,000 or towns at strategic checkpoints will be fortified with whatever we can grab.)
or
10. Every Town a Smithey- Emergency times, emergency measures. Its best we have the towns of the Kalahari producing weapons. Even if one man only kills 2 or 3, thats a win in the total amount of bodies dropped from the Horde. Of course we can make it better than 2 or 3. How about 20 or 30 per one man?
(Every town that can, will collect as much metal and explosive material to forge weapons- from grenades, guns, knives, and to pitchforks.)

1. Expand on Whale Oil- Whale oil is an important component of industrial society, whale oil/whale extract helps keep rust and crud from forming on machines, a very important substance indeed. Problem is, our current whale oil supply comes from overseas, or is in low home supply.
(Columbian machinery will be hastened and expedited, though at the cost of some whales.)
2. Hiawatha Drilling- Some have proposed as an alternate source of fuel to coal or steam, is to use petroleum, if ignites, sparks, and catches fire. Qualities it and coal share- but as an easily transportable liquid. And the good news is we have a few spots to start drilling!
(The state of Iroquois will sponsor the first petroleum drilling in the western fringes of the state. If profitable, we could see greater energy production.)
3. Refine the Engine- The steam engine has several deficiencies in it that could be fixed up if we tried to prefect it instead of abandoning it.
(A more green energy source- and energy putout from steam will be increased, though not nearly as much energy as oil.)
4. Allow Migration- To help buy the freedom of the slaves of Brazil and the Equator- we shall allow the rebelling slaves to settle in Columbian territory- should they choose.
(Those that wish to emigrate or escape the tyranny of Brazil and the Equator shall be given the option on where to settle.)
5. Act as Diplomat- There is no need to fight, if we managed to mostly abolish slavery without violence, we believe we can do the same down here.
(It has a 30% chance of working. And even then it'll transition the slaves to minimum wage serfs. But they shall no longer be bound in chains and the violence shall be set aside.)
6. Buying up Balts- While the Narodviks as an Armageddon Cult don't have our sympathy, the various ethnics being confusedly murdered by the Russians- or even intentionally- are a problem. We can help with that.
(The biggest the focus on are the Baltic nobility, thanks to thier wealth they could help sponsor further Columbian ventures and thier Germanic heritage will grant us better favor with the German states..)
or
7. Grabbing Ruthenians- The Ukrainians are an honest people born into a dishonest nation. They are labelled as "lesser Russians", when they've accomplished many great achievements. If Russia shall not care for 'Little Russia', then we shall take of them.
(The Ruthenian people will be encouraged to head for Columbia. Their farming skills and slight industrial skills will help us modernize quicker.)
or
8. Land for Cossacks- Cossacks are an odd folk. Spread out across Russia like butter they are fierce but loyal to thier nation. And yet for thier loyalty they are being hunted by the state they swore to serve.
(The Cossacks with thier nimble nature and pseudo-democratic traditions will fit into the Columbian frontier very nicely, though we'll get few of them.)

1. Starting a Proxy War- To further distract the Imperials, we shall encourage a small Pacific proxy war across Polynesia. We'll set a few boats on fire, and they'll quickly take the bait.
(We will have to support the Polynesians throughout this though to ensure they win.)
2. Through the Shinto Gates- The Japanese civil war has stalled into mountainous trench warfare, to give the liberal daimyos an edge we'll need to sneak into Edo and gain access on thier plans.
(A few agents will be sent into Edo. From there we could disrupt further Japanese activities and war-time efforts.)
or
3. Shelling Tokyo- The Japanese still live in wooden structures, we could definitely use it to our advantage. Loading up our naval gunnery with incendiary shells will cause quite a stir. . .
(Do it again LeMay!)
4. Supporting the Italians- The Illuminists are struggling to deal with the Italians and thier rebelliousness. We could direct efforts towards the Italian frontier- and if we're successful enough, we could possibly deprive them of thier sea ports and cripple them financially.
(The OBS will help reclaim Italia for Italians.)
or
5. Towards the Illuminated City- The Illuminated City- formerly Munich is an odd sight from what we heard. Its entire structure has supposedly been remodeled entirely- its center is a massive pyramid referencing the Eye of Providence. That pyramid supposedly is the HQ of the Illuminists.
(The city is a risky place, incredibly weird, and incredibly dangerous. But if we could find a way in, we could learn of the Illuminists plans.)
