Steven's throat went instantly dry.
Standing before him was a Gem of incredible size. Taller than a house, she looked down at them — a giant viewing the ants who dare oppose her and the Diamond Authority's rule. Donned in a bright, golden armor, a gem lay at the center of her chest: a triangular cut, flawless yellow diamond. Its clarity was blazing, and the only thing to match it. . . .
Steven's heart raced. He tightened the grip on his shield. He could hardly breathe. The Gem was now looking straight at him, and Steven's blood pounded with his heartbeat.
The eyes of this Gem held no humanity whatsoever. They weren't loving like Pearl's or spirited like Amethyst's, nor did they hold Garnet's calm nor Connie's sweetness. No. They were bestial. Two cold, hateful, gleaming yellow lights, so sharp that Steven could feel them running across his throat.
They were the most horrifying things Steven ever saw, and he dreaded whether they alone would be all that the Gem needed to kill them.
Seriously . . . this is terrifying.
