Description I've been hard at work trying to use up my yarn stash and when I found this amazing pattern; www.ravelry.com/patterns/libra… , and knew that I would have to make a rainbow version!

I didn't quite succeed in using up too much yarn. I didn't have any orange, yellow, or one of the purples so I had to get a whole skein of each. I'm really happy with the blanket, though. It's warm, soft, and sooo cozy.    And of course, my dogs love the blanket, too! ^^ Too bad summer is starting so I won't be able to use it yet.

I like how the corners connect so elegantly.  Great job.

This is the rainbow blanket! It is so beautiful and so large! I'm impressed! It must have taken forever to connect all those squares!

Thank you! It didn't take too long. At least not as long as I thought. I whip stitched them together instead of crocheting them so it didn't take as long as normal.

Ah I see. I stitches the pillow cover together too without knitting it, so in case I want to wash it I can remove the stitches. It's also much faster and easier to handle than crocheting it together. Even more so when it comes to half a million little squares.

That's a good idea. Did you cover up the ends then?

At first I thought sewing the little squares together on my blanket would be really boring, but it didn't take long at all. ^^

I just...stuffed the remaining loose end into the pillow cover itself Not very creative, I know.

I need to try sewing squares together.

That's probably what I would do, too. I hate to weave in ends so when I make dolls for myself, they normally have "fringe" were I didn't weave in the ends on their clothes.

You should.

For my own dolls, I often only pull the ends into the doll itself and that's it. But for coats and cloaks I need to weave them in.

I do, too. It's just easier to sew the yarn ends into the doll instead of trying to weave them in.

Wish that would work with blankets too. I see so many loose ends on my neat ripple blanket.

When I was doing the ripple blanket I carried the loose ends while I crocheted and hid them in the stitches. Have you finished the ripple blanket?

Not by a long shot. I had to stop working on it for several weeks and only started Saturday again. But I have used up one ball of each color and have...hm....1/4 done? It's coming along, I would say.

How big are you making the zig-zag blanket?

Yuki87 In reply to SJFan97 [2015-12-02 13:11:48 +0000 UTC]

I thought about 1meter or a little over. I used up one black and one brown ball and half of the next two ones. I thought about using 6 (3black and 3brown) balls in total. So I'm half done. My shoulder too... I'm getting too old for making blankets like that.

The Ripple Blanket I made is big enough to fit a queen sized bed. (although I'm not really sure how big that is.) I kind of cheated and used Worsted Weight yarn so I could finish mine faster.

In the end I cheated too. I used only two balls of each color and stopped. It's not that big now but big enough to cover me from my waist to my feet. With a thicker yarn it would probably have been more fun. Or with any other yarn than the sparkly because I feel it's hard to crochet with or is it just me? But I love how it looks.

I know what you mean. At least with me the sparkly yarn seemed to be a little harder to crochet with, but it's so pretty when it's done!

Then it isn't just me finding that sparkly yarn a bit harder to crochet with. But the effect is definitely worth it. It's so pretty!

This is really pretty and unique; I like how you managed to use an overall rainbow pattern and still stay original with your design.
