I've yet to read the Silmarillion, and have just got my hands on the LotR Trilogy, but now I can't wait, because this looks so awesome. >3<

Yeah, my Dad said it's a little hard to get into. All about the history of the LotR world. >3< Still, I love the series, so I'm interested in reading it as well!

Why do I feel like I know what is going on here and have forgotten over time?Β  Seriously, what story is this from?

Ah.Β  I'm not familiar with that one yet.Β  I thought that was after Lord of the Rings and so all the Elves should be gone by then.

it's a scene from Tolkien's Silmarion. it features the main villain of the story, Morgoth (a knockoff from Lucifer) facing of against a king of the High elves.

Since he has the power to make balrogs i always wonder why he didnt just make more to help him here xD

Skarabog In reply to GrumpySkeleton [2013-09-08 17:30:52 +0000 UTC]

he doesn't. Balrogs are "fallen" Maia (or Valar, i'm not entirely up to date to the mythos anymore) hin fact, he can't even create measly orcs! he makes them by corrupting elves. in fact, Morgoth is far less of a bad ass when you read about him. of all the "gods" on the setting, there are THREE stronger Gods, and get this, he only fights ONE time in the entire book, against an ELF (as in, a unaging and perfect, but otherwise squishy warrior) Morgoth gets cut SEVEN times, and the fight ends with Morgoth getting a limp. that's like breaking your foot squashing an ant!

sadly, indeed. that's why i prefer Sauron and Glaurung (the first dragon, who only needed his voice to take out a vast, and until then, unconquerable city)
