10/3/23 EDIT: MASSIVE REVISION! New design, concept, flavor, and abilities, and modified movepool!

You may have seen this on Twitter yesterday, but I figured I'd put up the HD transparent artwork for it here and had the time today on break, so here's the long-overdue update to the first standalone fakemon I ever posted for Sundo! I wasn't happy at all with the previous design and the fact that it was originally a pretty blatant pop-culture reference just didn't sit right with me, and it turned out way too unfocused when I tried to phase out the Creeper elements, so I decided to just get rid of it entirely and start from the ground up. This new concept is a little more thematic with a region based on Indonesia, which is one of the biggest producers of palm oil if not THE biggest, but which has suffered from a drop in forest biodiversity because of deforestation to make room for the imported oil palms used for the product. I decided to add a little Pokemon-ish twist on the idea by having the fruit used to make the palm oil be even more combustible, making this a fire hazard as well! Add to that the visual pun on palm trees and the "palmate" leaf shape with the leaves literally being used as hands to toss the fruit with like a catapult (i.e. a tree trebuchet, or a tree-buchet!), and you have this fun new concept that fits Grass/Fire much better! I don't know whether this qualifies as one of the "stupid" Pokemon concepts that people sometimes dislike, but I needed something goofier for this region and hopefully this fits the bill. Due to the design being rebooted from scratch, I also changed the Gigantamax as well, so stay tuned in a little bit for more info on that one!

I've also set up a poll for this on Twitter, but I'm thinking of making a version counterpart of this one as well to replace another single-stager I've had to phase out. Feel free to place your votes in the link below!

10/19/21 EDIT: Changed Flare Boost to Flash Fire, since the former is a signature ability and would be useless anyway due to Fire-types being immune to burns.

10/10/18 EDIT: New name!

The old name of this thing didn't sit well with me for some reason, so I decided to change it. The new one's a reference to the fact that eucalyptus trees have combustible oil, and when exposed to the heat of a brush fire the oil combusts and explodes! Definitely more fitting than a baobab for my taste. The original unchanged description is below; aside from the name change I don't feel like messing about with it otherwise, since its design works well enough in its own right.

Woo, a single stage fakemon! This is a design that I've been meaning to remake for a while, and I'm pretty happy with how the new version turned out!

On my old account I once joined a fakemon contest to design something based on a video-game character. I don't like doing stuff based on cultural references but I wanted to see if I could make something that could invoke the subject I picked, in this case the creeper from Minecraft. The original design, which was named "Explopiary", looked like three bushes with faces, all stacked on top of each other, with a fuse on top and legs beneath. It didn't look quite right, however, so I changed it up a little. The new version has only one face now, and is based on a combination of a baobab and a TNT bundle or barrel bomb. Notice also that the face spells out "TNT" if you look closely!

The stats and movepool were already decided with the original dex entry, as a special attacking counterpart to Carnivine. Most of Exploabab's moves are special in nature because trees aren't known for their melee skills lol. Bind is exchanged for Ember (explosions), Bite and Vine Whip for Flame Burst and Absorb (explosions), Sweet Scent for Shockwave (lightning-struck trees), Ingrain for Selfdestruct (explosions), Faint Attack for Acid Spray (noxious chemicals), and the Stockpile/Spit Up/Swallow trio for three different, increasingly powerful Fire-type movees for STAB (explosions). And of course, Power Whip is traded for the infamous Explosion!

Stats-wise, I used Carnivine's stats as a reference, though with a lot of numbers subtracted from, added to, or switched. The Bug Catcher Pokemon's 74 HP lost 4 points (70 HP) and the 100 Attack lost 11 points for the 105 Special Attack, while Defense got buffed by 10 points which were slashed from Speed, and Attack sacrificed another 21 points to boost both special stats and HP, resulting in 80 HP, 68 Attack, and 95 Sp. Def. For balance, Speed lost another 6 points, 2 of which were given to Sp. Def, bringing the result to 450 total - 4 short of Carnivine.

Explaobab's a slow but durable special tank, with solid HP, a strong special attack stat, and a decent but not stellar defensive type combination. Grass-type attacks aren't good in general, unfortunately, but they do provide plenty of support options, with Leech Seed, Sleep Powder, and Synthesis for recovery. Direct offensive options include Energy Ball, Leaf Tornado, and even Absorb for both recovery and damage at the same time. Fire-type attacks, however, work better for offensive power, and with Fire Blast, Overheat, and a breedable Will-O-Wisp for support, Explaobab can keep Bug-types at bay with more skill than other Grass-types. This leaves Flying as his only weakness, but that's what the Electric-type attacks he gets are for. And of course, what better way to end off a battle than blowing up in the faces of your opponents? With Selfdestruct and Explosion you can be sure that Explaobab will maintain his presence on the battlefield to the bitter end. SCATTER, EVERYONE! HE'S GONNA BLOW!!
