Description "The last of the Poisonous Beasts came from the sky, a Monster of Gales that descended from the highest peaks of the tallest mountains. Flying swiftly on a pair of mighty wings, it gazed upon the riches of the land with a terrible greed in its eyes. It flew through the skies as though it owned them, stirring up clouds of poison that blotted out the sun and tainted everything it touched and ensured that only it could take it safely. In this way it plunged the world into choking darkness for days on end, gorging itself ravenously and stealing whatever was left, but its hunger was never satisfied even as the very air around it grew choked with poison. Only after the sages of old lured it back to the mountain it had come from and sealed it away once again did the sun come out once more, restoring the riches of the earth along with it. To this day, the people of this world practice appreciation what they have and charity to others, knowing what will happen if they fail to do so. Should avarice and gluttony once again arise among us today, the Monster of Gales will surely return."

"Hatred. Ignorance. Greed. Together, these are the three poisons which cause suffering and ruin, and it is only because the Poisonous Beasts have never been seen for centuries that the poisons have not bought about the end of days. However, the bindings containing them will soon be weakened, for man and Pokemon are fallible creatures and so many have fallen prey to the Beasts' temptation since their imprisonment. It is only because of the goodness that remains in this world that they are held at all, and should this goodness fade, then they will arise again. May that day never come, for should they emerge once more, the fall of all living things will be ensured..."

The
Blight of Greed Pokémon
"Legend has it that it first emerged from the peak of a mountain over two thousand years ago. Flying through the sky in a toxic cloud, it stole all there was before it, and poisoned what it couldn't take so no others could."
"Once it took to the sky, its toxic fumes blotted out all sources of light, allowing it to devour its prey freely and leaving filth and decay in its wake. It is one of a triad of terrible monsters known as 'The Poisonous Beasts'."

** Tainted Gale
Category: Physical
Type: Poison
Power: 80
PP: 10
Accuracy: 100%
The user dives down from above, coating itself in toxic gases which badly poison the target. This move is Poison and Flying type simultaneously.

*** Toxic Terrain
Category: Status
Type: Poison
Power: N/A
PP: 10
Accuracy: N/A
The user turns the ground under everyone's feet to poisonous sludge for five turns. This poisons Pokémon on the ground every turn.

NOTE: When Toxic Terrain is in effect:
  • Grounded Pokémon are poisoned at the end of each turn unless they are currently affected by another status (if the status wears off, the poison takes its place). This does not apply to either Poison-types or a Pokémon with an ability that sets Toxic Terrain, which heal 1/8th of their HP during each turn. The poisoned status will remain after the Toxic Terrain effect stops. Steel-types will not be affected, but Flying-type or levitating Pokémon will be.
  • Poison-type moves used by affected Pokémon are boosted by 50% (regardless of whether the target of the move is affected by Toxic Terrain).
  • Grass-type moves have their power halved if used against affected Pokémon (regardless of whether the user of the move is affected by Toxic Terrain).
  • Water- and Flying-type moves will have a 20% chance of poisoning the target on top of any existing secondary effect (regardless of whether the user of the move is affected by Toxic Terrain).
  • Nature Power becomes Sludge Bomb.
  • Secret Power uses the animation of Poison Sting and may poison the target.
  • Camouflage causes the user to become Poison-type.

The third and final Poisonous Beast has arrived! This is my favorite of the three personally, and I'm quite happy with how he turned out!

Aside from the main theme going for them with the Three Poisons of Buddhism, the Poisonous Beasts are also associated with the Land, Sea, and Sky like the Weather Trio of Hoenn. This meant that with a terrestrial and aquatic member, the last one had to be a flyer. I also had to pick a monster from East Asian or Pacific folklore to fit the role, and luckly there happens to be such a creature. Minokawa is a huge bird from Philippine folklore, so massive according to legend that it could swallow the sun or moon and cause eclipses. An early story was in fact that it really DID eat the moon, but the panic of the people of the surface made it look down to see what the noise was, opening its beak and allowing the moon to escape. With this in mind I figured it was fitting that the flavor for Hairinoku give it the ability to blot out the sun or moon as he flew with a toxic cloud as well as his size alone. However, Minokawa is only half the influence this time - the other half being the even more obscure hai-ryo of Japanese lore which, like Minokawa is sometimes, is described as being dragon-like (which explains Dragon Dance on the level-up movepool as well as Dragon Claw and Dragon Tail in the TM list). Its cries are said to bring misfortune: it starts off as a lake monster, and once every 50 years, it emerges from its lake and turns into a golden bird which emits a blood-curdling cry which fortells catastrophe. Combining both of these into a single Legendary, I was then left with the pathogen theme to tie into the Poison-typing, and decided on a mix of mosquito and plague doctor. I know I have a mosquito fakemon in Sundo already, but Mosferaday doesn't embody mosquitoes' reputation for disease-spreading the way Hairinoku does, and anyway the mosquito elements are only in terms of shape and function rather than being directly based on one. As for how the vice of greed fits in? Think about how birds are often portrayed as attracted to shiny objects and prone to stealing them and you get the picture lol. There's also a gluttonous streak which connects to the harpies of Greek folklore, which also befoul food they can't steal, and the skull-like faceplate on Hairinoku does hint towards the bird-with-human-head appearance of the creatures in question (while the long beak is based on a plague doctor's mask to some degree). Add in some pterosaur elements for a prehistoric feel and there you have it, a giant freaky-looking poisonous monster bird.

With that, onto the combat statistics! You can find the rules for the stat spreads here ; I used the stat spread of Mekungira  as a basis this time around. This time I wanted a fast but frail mixed attacker, so I took 20 points each from both defenses and added them to Mekungira's 80 Speed, while taking 10 points from Attack and adding them to Special Attack. Both physical and special attacks are viable, so just pick and choose what to go for! The moves meanwhile needed little adjustment other than subbing flavor-based stuff and checking with other Flying-type Legendaries for reference (And come to think of it, we don't have authentic Poison-type Legendaries in canon - no, Arceus and Silvally do NOT count. Get on it ASAP, Game Freak!). Once again, signature Toxic Terrain, along with Roar, Poison Fang, Swords Dance, and Poison Jab, are kept the same. I took Hurricane, Air Slash, Foul Play, and Sky Attack from another terrifying Flying-type Legendary, Yveltal, while the rest was all flavor-based: Once again, signature Toxic Terrain, along with Roar, Poison Fang, Swords Dance, and Poison Jab, are kept the same. Tainted Gale is the signature dual-typed attack, of course. I took Hurricane, Air Slash, Foul Play, and Sky Attack from another terrifying Flying-type Legendary, Yveltal, while the rest was all flavor-based: Thief fits the whole greed theme, Gust is self-explanatory, Infestation is the trapping move and ties into the insect inspiration, Bug Bite and Leech Life likewise which also works with thievery (stealing Berries and HP, respectively), Foul Play works with his malicious nature, Dragon Dance due to the reptilian elements, and Gunk Shot as the final powerful Poison-type move.

The fastest of the Poisonous Beasts and the most balanced in terms of offensive stats, Hairinoku is a mixed sweeper par excellence. His two strongest single-typed level-up attacks are Gunk Shot and Sky Attack, but alas, they're unreliable: Gunk Shot isn't 100% accurate and Sky Attack wastes a turn. Luckily, we have Tainted Gale, which is more viable in this case than with the other two Poisonous Beasts because of its 100% accuracy. Poison and Flying do not share any types that are weak to one but resist the other - in fact, Tainted Gale deals DOUBLE DAMAGE to Grass, though at the expense of being doubly resisted by Rock (only a quarter of the damage taken neutrally? MADNESS!). Fairy, Bug, and Fighting all take 2x damage, Poison, Ground, Electric, and Ghost take half damage, and Steel is immune. Of course, Hurricane and non-item Acrobatics are viable too, as are Sludge Wave and Sludge Bomb, so if you don't mind missing out on hitting some very specific opponents, you can just take two STAB moves and something coverage-reltaed like a Dragon-, Fighting-, Dark-, Ghost, Steel-, or Bug-type attack. Of the four types he's weak to, only Electric poses a problem, since he lacks Ground-type coverage. So you could, for example, slap on Leech Life and Brick Break to help against as many potential threats as possible, followed by either Sludge Bomb/Wave and Hurricane or replace Swords Dance and Tainted Gale. If you don't mind sacrificing healing, Leech Life can be replaced with U-turn for a scouting role (Roost exists, but he's probably not good enough at surviving hits to make use of it). Support options like Taunt, Dragon Tail, and Torment are there too, but the idea sounds kinda strange in my head given that it seems like a waste of his attack power, especially with his defenses being lower than his buddies. Hairinoku is geared towards tearing his enemies apart and taking away everything they hold dear. It's just what he does, after all, and he's not gonna let anything keep him from doing it!

With this, the Poisonous Beasts are complete, huzzah! Only four slots in the Sundo dex remain, too, meaning that we're almost home with regards to this region! What could possibly fill them in, though? Stay tuned to find out!

You did a great job at combining several concepts into a cohesive design.  I like the decision to make a Poison Type trio. It's been almost 8 generations; we desperately need a Poison Legendary.

I actually made a move called Toxic Terrain as well; though my version weakened Fairy type moves instead of Grass moves as well as some other differences.
