Description FINALLY! The second page of my comic " Brotherhood" is here!...

Coloring this one took me forever, since my life has became quite complicated lately...and my times for sitting and drawing seem shorter than they ever were...

Anyways, here you have it: as far as the story goes, SkekLa the Illustrator bumped into Slave-Master SkekNa in a dark corridor as he was unwarily worrying about his work...The Slave-Master, an old rival of hers, would not lose such an oportunity to torment his enemy!...And when General SkekUng sums up to much SkekLa's horror...what will happen?...

Enjoy!

Page three will come as soon as possible!

P.S: Notice that SkekLa is still called by the male article "he" in this comic. it's no coincidence, this takes place before she had formally asked the Emperor to allow her being addressed at as a female by the others...In the skeksis' martial society, thr rule was being addressed at as masculine individuals, even though they are all hermaphrodites...but in time, SkekLa managed to insistently make the request to be recognized as a female...and achieved it.

*DISCLAIMER*:  I do not own the skeksis, their design, likenesess and demeanor, or their environment and world. They are property of Jim Henson estate, Frank Oz, Brian Froud, and all the team that worked on the creation of The Dark Crystal.

SkekLa's character, design and demeanor, the events depicted in this comic and the art are mine.

Oh goodness I didn´t imagine that was what this looked like! XD
This is an old discontinued version, though, you might like the revamp a bit better it´s called "Loyalty" and is currently unfinished, but slowly progressing ^^

Thank you!
Indeed they're rather brutal...though, luckily for SkekLa, no more than their law would allow them!
She's indeed awkwardly lucky that truly coming to physically harm a fellow is taboo between the skeksis!...^^u

Though it's rather ironic that they point out that law seconds before toppling her to the floor X) I suppose that was deliberate.

SkekLa In reply to What-if-Writer [2016-04-05 15:30:05 +0000 UTC]

It is ironic and cynical at the same time....and yes, indeed it was intentional, BUT the General, as unsubtle as he can be and all- knows the Law to perfection and has ddged it in the most simple way: he merely "STEPPED ON SKEKLA'S SKIRT"... He may say it was completely unintentional and that she "tends to fall by herself anyways with that limping leg" if he were questiond because of it...technically "he did not lay a hand or struck a weapon against her"...thus he feels safe.
Also, if any accusation from the Illustrator alone surged, the Emperor would possibly not heed her. The General holds by far much more favors from Him than she does...thus...SkekLa has all odds against her here---

Aaaaah. Loophole abuse, I see. And favoritism. Political Skeksis are the best Skeksis.

SkekLa In reply to What-if-Writer [2016-04-08 15:03:34 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes.
Loophole abuse where it's awful, and if you try to stop it it could become wors...AND favoritism indeed...not precisely aimed towards the "most puny one"...
Political skeksis are in their own gravy so to say...comfy and fitting like gloves!
They may have their quarrels but everything remains under a certain order...which of course anyways can be twisted freely (or almost) under the whi of the Most Dear lordship in question

SkekL has all to lose here...
But life is strange and tables can turn in the most unexpected manners...

That's the funny thing about the Skeksis. On one hand they're typical political schemers, the next they settle their affairs with something as simple as 'whoever breaks this rock gets to be leader'.

I shudder to think how angry they'd be if she insults their "masculinity" (which might not be effective seeing as they're all hermaphrodites) or literally spits in their eyes since she can't physical harm them. Although she could always use a scary prank as payback.

SkekLa In reply to whitelighter5 [2015-07-26 15:40:17 +0000 UTC]

You do well to be scared at thw idea...after all, all skeksis, by "imperial la" are subject to be showing up as males, and most take pride in it, as trying to appear more huge, intimidating and "alpha-male" like.
these two are no exception, so if SkekLa ever insulted their masculinity (or half-masculinity) XD she'd be seriously in trouble...well, MORE.

Spitting in their eyes would be a way into suicide as well...

But then..who knows what could happen next?

I do too...I was enduring it all my school years...imagine what I feel about it. But, in this case, it was part of the story of this character, hence I let it flow...as much as I hate this to happen to her.

In fact, she is not albino, but defecient of melanine probably...she is quite paler than the rest (even the Ornamentalist, who powders his face to white, thus they appear to have the same skin color)
SkekLa was born too pale and with one bright red feather on her back, which she plucked and now uses to draw

But I get the feeling that SkekEkt is a higher ranking Skeksis, so no one harasses him about it...

Is SkekLa's UrRu counterpart different in some way as well?

"So you don't fit in with the popular crowd. Now, I'd take that as a very good sign."-- Neil Gaiman's Stardust (the movie)

SkekLa In reply to SiJePuis [2015-07-26 18:15:33 +0000 UTC]

probably! After all he is the one to make the incredible decorations fo the castle and their robes and jewels..they shouldn't piss himoff or they'd lose all those benefits form him!

UrAl, her counterpart, is different in that he is prone to be more actively a tormentor of his skeksis half. He tends to enter her mind through dreams, which connects her more to him since she's much more vulnerable to his influence when dormant and with her defenses down.
Then, he speaks to her from ind to mind, tryig to instill guilt into her for being what she is, attempting at having her somehow turning back to him, and seeking the possibility to even turn her diferent, lighter, more inclined against her race's ways than just letting her be...In not letting her rest even at sleep, he is far more cruel than his usual fellow UrRus...it could be said this sort of apiritual proselitism seeks to do good...but in a cruel way!...by force.

SUCH GREAT MOVIE!!! And such great quote!

SiJePuis In reply to SkekLa [2015-07-27 05:00:18 +0000 UTC]

(Yes, but I don't know how faithful it is to the book. I've never read it. But that doesn't really matter because I regard books and their adaptations as separate but related entities anyway.)

Even her other half is ganging up on her?! Poor Illustrator!

In my not so private opinion, the urRu are really no better than the Skeksis. The Skeksis are twisted, selfish creatures willing to buy their pleasures with the pain of others, but the urRu are passive, closed-minded, and uninterested in taking charge of their own lives and minds. Yes, they are peaceful, but their kindness is only by default, it isn't true compassion. You'll notice they made no move to save any other Gelflings besides Jen, who was really only taken in because of the prophecy.

Two sides of the same coin. Any true, sincere good that exists within them only shows in the urSkeks, because that's how a human soul is--they are meant to be us humans, albeit far more rational. Don't let their angelic appearance fool you, they were still human like enough to want to sever away the Skeksis side they needed to BE urSkeks.

SkekLa In reply to SiJePuis [2015-07-29 14:08:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh, you'd do well in this case: it was one of those rare cases in which the book is in fact the adaptation...and it's not that faithful to the movie in certain senses!...To be basic, it starts by describing the skeksis withnreptilian eyes...(assumingky slit pupil? which they clearly don't have...and so on..and on...)

Oh yes,,,UrAl wants her back for completion, but she resists fervorously in the horrified belief that merging together again would make her -2lose herself" something that scares her even more than death itself.

EXACTLY!!! I see them as exactly that...hence why I (even if sounds cruel) prefer the skeksis...at least what they do is driven by a passion, and a sort of drive for things...they are more...SLIVE in certain terms...the UrRu seem so passivem careless anddoing everything by default, that they make me truly nervous...worse than doing evil inspired by passion or want, is to do nothing when you're supposed to be the good one...

Yes...for me the Urskeks are metaphorical peol,e who tries to be "better than they are" and presume to be perfect, stainless, and grand...into it, they try to send away their darker nature instead of taming it through effort, and see what happened...

SiJePuis In reply to SkekLa [2015-07-30 01:41:15 +0000 UTC]

(I was talking about Stardust...I've read the novelization of the Dark Crystal. It wasn't perfect, but it was a fun and interesting read.)

In your universe, SkekLa must have been quite terrified when the "hideous Gelflings!" came to the castle to heal the Crystal. I mean, yes, it's for the good of Thra, but it's not hard to pity the Skeksis. SkekSil for one seemed to completely lose it near the end; I thought I saw him laughing maniacally.

I'm not a big believer in the Good/Evil--Dark/Light worldview: I tend to see people as complex mixtures of both. But human beings try to eradicate undesirable or "impure" parts of themselves all the time. (For fear of starting a flame war, I won't put examples of this behavior. Everyone can think of some on their own without any help from me.) Worse, everyone has a different idea of what constitutes the dark side of our nature, which human tendencies are "evil". Many even think that "well-adjusted" people have no other nature, and that anyone who demonstrates otherwise is "abnormal". Still others think that it's normal to be selfish or immoral, and people who try to be a good example are only kidding themselves. And then there's some hurtful habits (pride, aggression, indifference) that have come to be seen as success or survival traits, or marks of someone who has a good grip on reality.

Cheers!

(Too Long to Read? I guess so. Sorry.)

SkekLa In reply to SiJePuis [2015-08-02 18:11:50 +0000 UTC]

OH!!! My bad! :  Yes indeed, tdc novel is not perfect but it's a fair read anyways! ^^

Yes!
If I kept her alive to the movie canon, she'd have been absolutely in panic as the gelflings came up.
I reckon she'd even scorn her Brother for bringing them  there, in fear that something awful would happen.
I even can picture her saying to him "I TOLD YOU! NOW LOOK! THE CEILING IS FALLING!!!"  As everything crumbles at the movie's end...meanwhile she'd be tryign to shield herself and Sil from the rubble...XD

I also think he WAS laughin histerically...I assume, out of absolute horror and confusion.

NOPE, NOT TOO LONG...and in fact, clever insight!
I think much as you do, good/evil doesn't really exist, it's only a way we have into describing  the better or worse manners of getting along with others, ouyr environment, or ourselves..but sometimes it does happen that certain traits that may make you successful (or even save your life) seem to be labedel as "evil" by most moralists...I would dare even say a dose of pride, aggression and a certain amount of selfishness could keep you alive in many dangerous situations!...not the "most noble" traits, but  hey, who is truly noble after all?
Really, the absolutists who see the world interms of "disney-cute and good" and "bad, evil, meany means" is plain naive or rather decent liars...

Reality is not black and white but immensely shaded with hundreds of greys, and that is not bad or good, but just the way it is...

SiJePuis In reply to SkekLa [2015-08-03 03:45:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, thank you. I think it's a practical way of looking at things while still allowing the better parts of human nature to shine through.

I mostly agree with what you said...it reminds me of something I read somewhere, to the effect that evacuation plans are designed with expectation that every person in there will try to save their own skin, and the biggest factor of death in large-scale tragedies is that people stay to try and help others get out. Which is a reassuring statement about human nature, I suppose, or simply confirmation that cooperation or concern for others is instinctual. it proves that a career in accident prevention makes you darned cynical! at any rate...Anyway, I think I've said all I intend to say on Good and Evil...

(Not many people are that naive, I think. I'd settle for "rather decent liars".)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SkekLa In reply to SiJePuis [2015-08-05 18:07:43 +0000 UTC]

EXACTLY. One sometimes must be as cold as to know when to stand for oneself in spite of everything else (if one's aim is to survive at all) AND meanwhile, try to keep one's inner light shining as much as possible, with empathy and kindness to others.
Not as much as to make them use you as a rug...just in the correct ammonut as to be helpful and a decent human being!

Hehehe I get you...and yes, ma y assume the persons will be trying to save themselves, and to be true, I've been to an accident where if one person (who didn't know how to help another if their neck were broken) shook an injured man as to "help him up2 and ended up killing him here he could have been saved if had remaines still and quiet.
Such thungs happen sadly quite frequently...or more deaths than there could be if they did what they're meant to: think for themselves and only aid those closer, not do anything superman-like, and mind the knowledge they have on what's going on (because precisely one could hurt more thanhalp if one tries to do something one doesn't know how!)
So...
I believe I have stated I'm a cold, dishearted horrid person, nevertheless I have always helped others in bad situations where I could and knew how to.
Once I had to abandon a guy amidst a protest strike, I didn't even know him, he was beaten by strikers and I was too, even though none of us was even in the strike...and I had to flee to save my own skin. Sadly I didn't even think it twice!
But at other occasions, I did help a kid who was nearly ran over a car, a girl who was being robbed, etc...
So...it's all perhaps a matter of ballance, while doing what you can...

Not that my asumptions are absolute truth, of course! I just am how I am...

HAH..YOU'RE RIGHT...How many naive persons does one know!!!...Yep...it's more likely rather decent liars...pfff
