Past/Bio: Gabriella, or Gabby as she’s preferred to be called, was born to her loving parents Thaddeus and Olga Langley. Her father, Thaddeus Langley, is the owner and lead researcher of Langley-Inc, a technology research company that invents, constructs and sells high-end medical machinery. Her mother had at one point been a traveling circus performer with her natural ability to change her size. Thaddeus called Olga his muse, and so inspired was he by her natural ability to grow and shrink he began developing technology that increased an individual's body mass to assist in microsurgery. Unfortunately, no matter what Thaddeus tried, the suit he constructed refused to work. Misfortune would continue to plague Gabby’s family, as not long after her birth, Olga would be kidnapped and her body was stolen by the evil scientist, Dr. Doris Zeul, AKA Giganta. After her capture, it became obvious that whatever process Giganta had used to merge her consciousness with that of Olga was permanent. Unable to separate Zeul from his wife, Thaddeus had little choice except for to declare Olga as dead, they buried an empty coffin and Thaddeus and Gabby were alone.
Gabby was discovered to not have her mother’s abilities which disappointed Thaddeus, as he would have hoped they were genetic. He never-the-less loved her dearly and doted upon her. At the time, Langley-Inc labs were nestled into the University district of Metropolis and seeing as Thaddeus worked almost non-stop, Gabby was raised by a series of nannies. Without a stable parental figure, and able to get away with pretty much anything she liked, Gabby grew to become a spoiled, self-absorbed, socialite princess. Gabby was tall and pretty and as such she was always part of the popular cliques in school and got everything she wanted from her father, doing his best to maintain a relationship with her. Gabby wasn't the brightest student either, in fact, she struggled with academics and social interactions despite understanding her place in the social order fairly well. When she was in middle school, she would often burst into her father's lab and demand attention. Being the boss' daughter, she was free to come and go as she pleased from the labs and often visited after school. She’d even force the undergrads her father employed to complete her homework for her because generally, she wasn't bright enough to do it herself. To Gabby, life was perfect.
When Gabby was 14, her father had refused a buyout from Lexcorp in favor of a merger proposal from S.T.A.R. Labs. He would state in an interview with the Planet, that it was on the basis of ethics he turned Luthor down. Luthor was enraged, and truly after the research and tech that Thaddeus had invented based off his late wife. So he decided to do a little corporate espionage to get it. Enlisting the help of a few rogues out of Central City (to help cover his tracks) Luthor descended upon the warehouses of Langley-Inc. It was Weather Wizard who found Thaddeus and his daughter with the growth tech. Thaddeus became trapped after a falling beam crushed his spine, but desperate to keep the tech and his daughter out of the Weather Wizard’s hands, he instructed his daughter to put on the suit and escape. Little did he know that the missing component to Thaddeus' work had been in Gabby all along and as she escaped, the suit activated, and Gabby grew to 15 feet tall in a matter of moments. The dormant, inherited, Meta-human DNA had made her susceptible to molecular manipulation without fear of collapse. It was a final gift from her mother. Gabby easily defeated Weather Wizard and brought her father to the hospital, saving his life. Gabby now faced the prospect of losing her father, of being orphaned and being truly alone. Despite her newfound ability, Gabby never felt more powerless and small before. And for the first time in her young life, she was completely and totally humbled.
Thankfully, Thaddeus survived, and with the help of medical tech he had invented, doctors were able to partially repair his spine but he lost the use of his legs without braces and a cane. Weather Wizard gave up Luthor after Gabby turned him over to the police. However, Thaddeus knew that Gabby using the suit only meant that Luthor would redouble his efforts to obtain it. This also meant Gabby was now in danger of retribution. Thaddeus felt it wise to keep the two together. Gabby, in an act of self-imposed penance, decided to try and change her ways. So, she and her father became inseparable after his release from the hospital. Thaddeus was thankful but much too proud to let his daughter take care of him, however, Gabby refused to let him be alone while he adjusted to his new condition. She dropped out of school, much to his protest, and focused her efforts on caring for her father, protecting him and assisting in his research. However, old habits die hard. Gabby adored the attention lavished upon her by the masses in her Giant form, and would often sneak out to do heroics accepting the moniker ‘Giant Girl’. By the time the merger with S.T.A.R. Labs was completed, Gabby had defeated the advances of many of the Central City rogues looking for revenge, several Metropolis native villains, and done a few smaller heroics. However, her lack of skill and general showboating would often put her in the way of police, rescue crews, and one time, Superman himself. After one such event, a column was written about her by Lois Lane in the Daily Planet; it was scathing. Titled “Daddy, WOW, I’m a Big Girl Now!” it made Gabby look and feel like a joke. Utterly humiliated, and with the Metropolis public against her, suddenly Gabby didn't feel very heroic and was humbled again. So, Gabby was all too happy when she and Thaddeus packed up and moved to Detroit.
As a subsidiary of S.T.A.R. Labs, Langley-Inc moved into the labs proper and soon after Gabby met two men that would change her life. The first was Ray Palmer, who was working at S.T.A.R. Labs at the time improving his own tech for exponential growth. Thaddeus and Ray found immediate scientific kinship, and Gabby’s abilities proved interesting to Ray. The second, was S.T.A.R. Labs supporter, The Flash. No doubt impressed with Gabby’s tales of besting some of his Rogues, Flash took an interest in Gabby. He introduced her to Kid Flash, who would become her close friend, and talked to Ray about letting Gabby come along with him on adventures and to help train her in proper power use. Reluctantly, both Ray and Thaddeus agreed. With The Atom as her mentor, Gabby began her superhero campaign over again in earnest. Immediately, Ray and Gabby did not get along well. Despite her previous ordeal in Metropolis, Gabby was still a little headstrong and a bit of a showboat. Ray strongly disapproved and Gabby felt Ray was deliberately wasting her time. When an argument between the two threatened to end the training, Thaddeus put his foot down. If Gabby wished to continue her career as a superhero she had to A) finish her training with Ray, and B) finish her high-school equivalency, or he would dismantle the suit. Gabby obeyed. One year after the formation of the team, Giant Girl was officially added to the roster. She had better control over her abilities however she had very little experience working on a team and even less experience following instructions. This, coupled with Gabby's decision to start off by asserting herself as a queen bee of sorts, really made her initial interactions with the team very difficult, and it would continue to make her life difficult throughout the entirety of the events of the Light's reveal.
-Spoilers for Season 2-
After overcoming the obstacles that Gabby set up for herself and helping the team reveal the full extent of the Light's plan and saving the Justice League, Gabby has settled into her new role a senior member of the team. Much like Nightwing, or perhaps because of him, Gabby had decided to take on the moniker of Giantess a few months following his change. Gabby's father, with the help of her mentor Ray Palmer, invented the size modulator 2.0, this new device would expand Gabby's ability another 30 feet allowing her to get into what she titled "Super Giantess Mode" at a height of 50 feet. Despite their increased interactions with the new outfit revealed to her, Gabby still felt like her father was still distant, and that she lacked his approval. Meanwhile, her friend and main connection to the team, Wally West, had retired and with the influx of new young heroes caused Gabby to feel as if she wasn't getting her due. She felt that as a senior member of the team should be entitled to some perks. Gabby would turn these feelings of resentment for her perceived lack of importance into a drive to lead her own squads. Gabby Would push to take on more responsibilities in what might be the worst possible time for her to do so.
Little did she know she was not privy to important information and due to the close relationship to her friend Wally West, aka. Kid Flash, they were keeping her at arm's length on purpose. They had little option Gabby was not the most private of a person, in fact, she had just recently publically revealed her secret identity so she stopped wearing a mask.
