#11: Dethl

"We were born of nightmares... to take over this world, we made the Wind Fish sleep endlessly! If the Wind Fish doesn't wake up, this island will never disappear! We would have been the masters of his place... but you had to come here and disrupt our plans! Heh heh! You can never defeat us!!! Let's rumble!"

Ahh the sad, inevitable home stretch towards Halloween begins... Today we have Dethl, the enigmatic end boss and cause of all the entire game that was Link's Awakening... yes I ACTUALLY included him.

I'm not gonna lie, I don't think much of this guy. I mean, why would you? He's just sort of there and his design is just a shape shifting shadow, which is revealed to be just a big eye... which, as I'm noticing is something they like to use in Zelda a lot! I also must admit, while I'll receive infinite flack for it, I don't really think much of Link's Awakening either. Yes, it's the game that got me into Zelda, but it just really doesn't compare to better games in the series... but that's me.

While I don't have the highest regards for the game and even less for Dethl himself, I included him and soon more to come for a very specific reason. To show that there are more final bosses in the Zelda series than JUST Ganon! (even if one of Dethl's form IS clearly just Ganon's shadow... but I digress) It's a bad misconception that Ganon is the only end boss in every game, save for about 3. This is not true. While most common, Ganon is only the end boss in about 5 of the games total and I felt, no matter how dull and poorly made some may be, all of these overlooked final bosses deserved a spot in the lime light... plus I hadn't had a shout out to Link's Awakening yet, and I support any end boss who starts his battle by saying "Let's rumble!"

So enjoy it Dethl. For once, someone remembers your existence!
