This was informative. Typography has always been my weakness, but unfortunately, I didn't get to take any typography classes when I went through school.

Huh. Didn't realize that this was floating around. Everything here was classified by terms in my school text book, and a handful of other typographic texts.
Very good to know that there is an 'industry standard' so to speak. The only thing that kinda throws me a little is that it's categorized by dates to some extent. I think the actual typeface style should be the defining characteristic. But it does make a good amount of sense.

So does Comic Sans technically count as a Sans-Serif or a Decorative typeface?

Technically, it falls into a another category, "handwritten". As the title suggests, it aims to imitate handwriting, although not the traditional penmanship of the 'script' typefaces.
There's plenty more categories of typefaces, and then more sub-categories within them, so it's neigh on impossible to fit them all into one piece.

Don't forget the typeface that makes you look like an ill-informed idiot: Comic Sans! I have to say, though, that I do prefer Times New Roman when it comes to printing myself.

Why does Comic Sans make people seem like idiots/stupid exactly? I've read people saying that and I don't understand. :\

Because it's modeled on comic books, which makes it inappropriate for serious subjects. It was meant to be a font for kids. If you are trying to be taken seriously, it's a mistake to use it.

Oh, yes. It's a sans serif font, which makes it good to be seen clearly from long distances. (The "Sans" part of the name). But you'd use it to promote your child's 4th birthday party, not some swanky high-class gathering.

I think some are. (Well, I'm on Mac so I can't tell which ones are specifically by Microsoft.) Though I tried to keep the typefaces to ones that everyone would of seen or heard of.
