Description Ok, so I'd been working on this for a week and a half, and after finishing a 4 page paper on immigration reform, I figured I'd give myself a lil break and went ahead and finished it. :3 This just busted from some random doodle of a cheetah. While I was doodling it I was listening to Josh Radnor's Song of the Day and inspiration struck like lightning!

Is it weird for an artist to actually like her own work? Just kidding. XD I know the acacia trees don't really look like acacia trees but I've never drawn them before, so I did my best. Still satisfied with the ending results. C: Though I'm not sure if I made everything too orange or not. I have the original ArtRage file with no shading, I may upload it here later if you guys show enough interest in it.

Oh and I must point out that there were no pre-made brushes used at all, not even on the grass. Everything was drawn by hand.

Please let me know what you think of this. If you want to go a step further I'd love a constructive critique, but if not I completely understand. c:

~GIMP (Shading)

5-5-13 EDIT: Thank you guys for the critiques! I recently found time in between studying and homework to put more shading on the cheetah. Tried to go crazy on details so I hope everything looks better.

Great job on the perspective!
The colours are awesome and support the atmosphere immense!
You could try to give the cheetah more shadows especially at the belly

Thank you so much! I was convinced I had dumped too much orange in there XD. I will most definitely do that when I find the time. ;D (college, yikes!)

I think it looks beautiful! The color choices are great

The only criticism I would give is that there seems to be a bit of inconsistency in the detail level. The grass is very detailed, but the cheetah is very flat, which kind of draws your eye away from the cheetah into the background, when the cheetah is meant to be the focal point. I would maybe personally prefer to see mostly the highlights and the general idea of the grass and more detail in the shading of the cheetah. Here is an example to illustrate what I mean: [link]

But otherwise I think your drawing is awesome! I hope you find my critique helpful, keep up the good work!

I see what you mean now. I typically don't really think about how major the shading on the animal needs to be. I think I'll retouch this when I find the time and use the photo you linked me as a ref. Thank you so much! Your critique was very helpful indeed!
