Description

This one is pretty much me trying to prove a point that the airbrush is not as bad as it seems, just like the smudge tool it can be used freely to create your piece, as long as you don't overuse it and end up making the whole thing blurry.

For starters I use mostly the airbrush to build the shapes of the face, then I copy that layer (backup purposes) and paint over with a bristle brush (you can also use a semi-hard brush) then you just color pick for blending, with this you can refine the edges and define what's supposed to be hard and smooth, finally I add an overlay layer to make the colors pop up better by using the airbrush as well

Of course, this will end up looking like the "sketch the owl and then draw the rest of it" type of step by step if you don't understand the basic of the fundamentals, but just to give you an idea, people demonize so much the airbrush that I just wanted to show you can use it freely, as long as you have an idea on how to build soft and hard edges. (I myself struggle with those concepts, but it's great to try them out anyway)

I hope this can hope you somehow!

Have a nice one!

Thanks! I've learned digital art related stuff through youtube mostly as well, also with lots of attempts and different techniques every time. It's a long path I gotta say, you have to have patience, a whole lot of it, but I think with time it pays off.
I wish you the best of luck in your art journey!!!

I'd say to start simple, some people come to believe that finished artworks lead to improvement, I used to think like that as well, but I had my mind changed when a professional once said that the process of creating a piece is more important than the actual finished product, saying that you should focus on the shapes, big forms, to then, add the fancy stuff, the details, which believe it or not, are nor as important in this scenario. Try also to focus on the thing you struggle the most and start from there, then when you think you're seeing some improvement go to the next one and so on. I've been doing like that for some time already, and those have been helping me.
As for youtube channels, I recommend sycra and proko for anatomy advice, marco bucci for color and rendering advice and sinix design and ericanthonyj for general digital art tips
These are the main ones, hope they can help you somehow!

That doesn't matter as much if you don't intend to build a portfolio or print your pieces. You can go standard and make things easier. It's my weakness too, never been a big fan of it tbh, and even if that was a problem we can always have an online aid to help us all to get questions answered. But overall it's simpler than it seems
