That heap of British crap is called the Rover SD-1. It was notorious among automotive enthusiasts in the UK for being so rust-prone, it could oxidize in 50% humidity.
And of course, the first parts to rust away and fail were always the most important ones, like the drivetrain, axles, door hinges, etc.
The engine apparently came from a Chevy Vega, because the block was just as porous.
