Description Wow, deviantart is really lacking in the "real art" (=non-digital work) department when it comes to categorization!

This is a sculpture I made for sculpture class last year.
It's a cabbage with hands as leaves.
I had to make this twice, actually, because the first time I tried to make it, I used real hands, and it turned out to be rather hard to use plaster with only one hand or to borrow someone else in the studio's hands (we were all very busy and trying to get our work done, so not a lot of people had time to spare to lend me their hands!)
After trying hard to create it using real hands, I resorted to creating a bunch of clay hands, and then I created a break mold (Whatever big chunks of it that remained are the pieces on the outside of the cabbage), dug out all the clay, generously spread release agent all inside the mold and filled it again with plaster to get the final shape in plaster.

I had this idea that leaves are like hands in the way they waver in the light or the way, in a cabbage, they are curled around a central place. It was a technical exercise to learn plaster, and while I was a week late in handing in something that lived up to what I wanted, I finally ... had it done.

I struggled a lot in my process to create this project... I started with one idea, and then I changed my mind and attempted another idea.. and then I changed my mind and attempted another idea.. and those all failed or were implausible so this was what I finally ended up being able to create.

This certainly isn't my best work, but it's the one that I think has the most effort embodied in it besides the Journey (Small House) I made in that same class. (which is at: [link] )

i'm creating a 'hands' artwork, which will include a series of pages and photographs. i was wondering if i could print out a 4x6" picture of this and use it as well. of course, i will write your deviantart page address on there, and give proper credit in my notes.
