Casper is Naoko Akagi's personality as a woman. Then what are Balthasar and Melchior? Why did they accept the self destruct but not Casper?
Ritsuko eludes me.

Because as a mother, Naoko supported Ritsuko, as a Scientist, she agreed that everyone dieing was bad, but as a woman, she was still "OMG Gendo's so HAWT! I'll do everything he says!". That's the gist of it, or what I took it as anyway.

as I understand it, melchior is the scientist and balthasar the mother..
melchior accepted because the price of human instrumentality was too high under these conditions
and balthasar accepted because she wants to screen her daughter from melting to a one-living (aka the result of the human instrumentality)
and casper was against because she supported gendou's decision
