Description All I knew was that the place felt like home. Mystically alien, but with a warmth I knew not from this world. The gentle light, the whispering mountaintops, the rustling of prayer flags.... I was in a enrapt with every detail and fragrance.... I only wanted to "be" in that place forever.

I noticed a couple of old monks chatting but I didn't pay much attention. There were many old monks throughout the village and principal wat. But then something tickled my psyche. Just a playful tug, but enough to rouse me from my europhia. I noticed one of the monks, the taller one wearing a nice watch, large eye glasses, and thick wool socks in sandals. I don't know why I focused on this man, but something seemed a bit different with him. He had some kind of invisible light emmanating from his space.

I kept the feeling for a good while after that, but just blamed it on the spiced chai and opium. Until.... a man walked up to me and asked me if I knew who that man was.... I told him I didn't and then he informed me the gentleman was his holiness, the Dalai Lama himself.

i'm sure being in His presence feels just like you described...

Why you are truly blessed to be so close to His Holiness. I feel the same way as you do about the Buddhist religion although if I were to change religions, this would be one choice of mine for the peace it promotes in oneself. I have a cd of the Gyuto monks chanting and when I want to concentrate perhaps when I am writing or trying to work out a problem, I put it on. Very soothing. This is such a beautiful picture here. The colors are so rich and the pattern created by the brass (?) holders is just serendipitous.

Yes, the funny thing is... I get "blessed" all the time... and like when I was standing spitting distance from His Holiness... I didn't even know it. I think that's the way it is most of the time... you don't recognize you're actually happy when you actually ARE... AND, you don't realize you've made it to heaven until you've fallen from it.

thx again,

I have often heard that the aura of the Dalai Lama is palpable and enhances your own peacefulness. I would love to be able to experience the things you mentioned. Thanks for giving me a little "time-out" from my own ordinary life!

hello. i've been watching your photos for a while, just hadn't gotten around to finding anything interesting to say to you.
You have a very special way of photographing/seeing the world. everything is bright and colorful and interesting, even if it's something as mundane as a crack in the wall, or some chairs, even if the subject is serious and sad.
when i take pictures i like to seek out things that are normally considered ugly, and with my photograph turn it into a beautiful image, so that viewers can see the natural, inherent beauty that permeates everything in the world. also, the little interesting details in the world around us that many people don't see. like the way ice looks in a water glass a restraunt, or the way light reflects through the condensation on a window, or the shadows formed by tree branches.

i am hoping to become a Gallery artist and some point, and would Love to be able to travel and take pictures. i'm planning/hoping to take a road trip accross the US this summer... if i do it, i should be able to get some Great pics...

probably just get back to Mexico and do some writing. I'd really like to go somewhere new... but when I do that I spend all my time exploring the new place and not writing. But, I'm not sure. I haven't been able to go anywhere for a year now and I'm "jones'n" REAL bad! I'll probably leave town within a month or so.

I've had plans to go a particular place before, then changed them at the last minute. I was originally going to Bali a couple years ago, but decided to go to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Lao instead just a week before I left. Not sure why I changed my mind, but I got a feeling or something. Good thing too... on that trip is when the hotel in Bali was bombed.

He really is special, I once had the chance of meet him years ago and I remember perfectly, He joust say to all of us (our hole school) β€œyou kids will be great”. He was sensation for weeks after he left.

As always I love your picture: great colour, great light, great composition and great subject.

yes... that's it. His presence left some "residue" in my soul. Not sure why. I mean, I'm not a Buddhist (though I find the Buddhist philosophy to be one of my favorites ~ especially Tibetan), but it was strange that a human being could effect you like that. What's most interesting is that I didn't even know it was him. If I'd known it was him I could assume that I'd projected those feelings. But, I really thought he was off touring, etc. And, I've never seen him in person, so the plain glasses and wool socks kind of made me think he was just one of the many other old monks in Dharamsala.
