Step One: Welcome back. This tutorial, a specific request, is for those people that need a hand with hands (sorry ). As always, sketch out your characters' outline but be sure that the hands are visible: we'll be working with two types - relaxed and stretched.

Step Two: Before proceeding, please be advised that this tutorial is specifically for feminine hands and may not work as well for males. Now then, as always, flesh her out. By this point, you want to know your hand and finger positions, but you don't need to be too detailed yet. Just find something that works and jot the idea down.

Step Three:
Out-Stretched: A lady's hands should be slim and attractive, but be careful. Too skinny and you'll get a witch effect, too thick and it lends a chunky feeling. If you look at the side of your hand, there should be a slight dip or crease where your palm has a line. Don't forget to add that, but don't make it overly pronounced. The fingers should be longer with a slight, inward curve, depending on how far they're stretched. Knuckles and nails are optional but, when used properly, can give a realistic touch.

Relaxed: A relaxed hand is trickier than a stretched one. A person doesn't have the back of their hand showing when at ease, you usually see a side view (although that makes it harder). To begin with, make the wrist curve inward before expanding into the hand. Add a little line to indicate the wrist bone. The thumb is what makes this hard. It rolls out then in again. That piece of skin between your thumb and fore finger doesn't have to be very noticeable, but it IS what gives you such flexibility, so perhaps it's worth mentioning? The fingers here will be slightly bent (inwardly) and overlap eachother. Don't be lazy. Make sure to add all five fingers, or else you get a cartoony effect.
