During the US Civil War the USS Constellation flew the Stars and Strips in the Mediterranean as a deterrent to Confederate commerce raiders and smugglers to the CSA.
Before the War she hunted Slave Ships.

That's right. Don't know why they didn't build her as a steamer. The wind is kind of iffy in the Mediterranean. I put all the data on USS Constellation 1.

In those day steam engines weren't always reliable, her economy and endurance though did enable others to be brought homeward for Blockade Duty.
