I feel like there's a deep meaning behind the title and the picture since the combination was in my mind from the very beginning.
Our lives are full of deadlines - final dates of expiration which we can't change. Some things just have to be done before a certain time.
But sometimes you can hear a person or another saying "it's time to grow up" or "it's time to start acting like and adult". Who is it to say that? Who gave them the authority to decide on which phase we should mature or on which phase our character should develop?
As an artist I refuse to think there is any deadline to become better or more "mature" (a term so subjective it makes you wonder what it really means in practice) in terms of making art. No one but you should decide when you want to take yourself to the next level. There's no finishing line so don't be in such a hurry to find it.
Just because a phoenix is bound to burn in flames and be reborn into something more beautiful, it doesn't mean it's up to anybody else to decide when that happens. There's no worse thing than the burn of the unwanted fire.

As for the pic, some of you may notice that I uploaded a sketch of this piece (fav.me/d6xgja1) a little while ago. Usually when I start my works I have an image in my head which I follow, but it changes quite a lot on the way and ends up being something completely different than what I had in mind in the beginning.
As for this one though, I kinda knew all along what I was doing. A colorful bird, yeah, flames, yup, some flying feathers, totally. I also visioned a terrified expression on the phoenix.
Like with all my larger pieces, I wanted to try something new. In this case I painted fire for the first time and I think it looks pretty nice. (thanks to yuumei 's CLOUD brushes, haha) I also saw more trouble to make more detailed soft shading.
This was also my first large piece on Paint Tool SAI. I just love linearting and shading with that program, but gosh it sucks what comes to editing. Right after shading I just had to switch to photoshop.
I seem to have a tradition of finishing a big artwork around January.

Pure pleasure to my eyes and inside~
You know what? You caught me with description to this deviation as I was had point of my life when I realized same thing aand...I considered as I was kinda reborn from ashes of ashame like Phoenix. When I will follow my life with true passion, not hobby that everyone thought around me I'll follow. So I'm loving personally drawing and description even more
I would like to add, your thought just describes that not everyone grows up or is ready for new chapter in life as everyone around. I'm for example someone that as child was more mature with some point of views while as "steeping into" mature life, I needed more time than others. but I guess you probably know that
The drawing is simply incredible. A lot of love, passion,work on it...the background is beautiful, all the feathers are just gorgeous, if not ---often used in the internet--- fabulous. The pose is graceful and everything works well giving the dynamic, dance-like feel and that it's just like a photo that caught a moment.

As a person I've been unusually mature since very young age, so the comments about "growing up" and developing have been mostly regarding my art. "Couldn't you draw real birds instead of weird ones like these?" or comments about how my digital art has no future unless I'd do design work for game companies so I should do traditional instead etc. the list goes on. Especially my art teachers have acted like they knew when was the time for me to turn a new leaf and start making completely different art from before.
People think they were helping me, but telling me what to do instead of encouraging me to do what I want to do are completely different things.
And I think that applies to everyone

oh my! I felt like I'm reading about myself
but it was about me drawing Pokemon or comics inspired by animated movies.
I was thought to be paleontologist or at last paleoartist as I would go for serious work....just sayin'
I haven't got comments as my digital work has no future, but that I shall try stubbornly try to start there and there while I don't have portfolio or I don't have possiblity, because in my country there isn't anything for me truly. Designing posters or advertisements and setting them for print that's all in my country. For art, I see people ask for portaits, while I...I don't have talent to draw humans. I do them well, but not enough to even make them pleasuring/recognisable. and I love creatures. My uncle wants me to do everything "for yesterday" while I still cannot. I still need to try my way of doing things to have style and confident way of drawing. They think it's easy, while it's not. ehh
I think these people go with the priority "what's needed, what will give you a sure job" instead of that we are artists, we go with ideas, they are maiing us alive and we can choose even worse-paid job, more efforts, but what makes us truly happy.
At last what I see from my family who give me comments. The way I think is highly unheard by them as I'm not grown up yet inside.
I think it applies to everyone for sure who know or feel what they wanna do. There are some people who doesn't have clear idea and, you have to show some options to them since they wouldn't find by themselves....this is something sad I noticed in my young cousin...he's intelligent,kind, likes to learn and do things, but is so unorganized and scatter-minded.

It has been the same for me, getting comments about how an artist won't have it easy making a living out of it. When was the turn, when a child was told: "Oh you're so good at drawing, you should become an artist!" and suddenly you started getting: "You'll never get a job with your art." instead?
It's like only children are allowed dreams and adults should only have goals. I think it's ridiculous and definitely kills your soul as an artist, if everything you do is just for a goal, to reach a certain point.
There's not much possiblities as an artist here in Finland either. I don't plan on making a living out of my art anyway, because I can be more free if my life isn't depending on it. I have more energy to put into works when I'm only allowed to make art, not forced to.

In finland, really? I know ShadeofShinon is from Finland and she does what I'm dreamign about even way before I joined DA.
I guess she's doing well as an artist and can even sell her works irl.
buut this is what I think, I haven't lived in Finland, so I don't say I hardly believe it's not hard to be an artist of this kind
Coming to the matter how people around us encourage when we're childs and what when we get older: before I understood what's my hobby and what passion, I was wished to be paleontologist or paleoartist, but when I went into biologic kinda-specilization in gimnazjum (sorry there's no equivalent abroad for this 
Really, since I was child, till TODAY and till THEN I was keeping with news about paleo- and general zoology and was looking for a way how to become paleoartist then. They totally ignored that, even if I was talking about that as I think loudly where to go as I'll graduate gimnazjum.
So I guess one thing is to look for sure job that is indeed needed for them, second is, they consider we HAVE to change from being child and stop having dreams.
Kinda like that, it's hard for me to put it into words and especially english words

Shinon is a friend of mine actually. Well, not a true friend, but we played pokemon together in a convention last summer and I have commissioned her before. The reason she's popular is that she does mostly fanart and has a recognizable style. It's the easiest way to fame here in dA. Nothing wrong with that though, she's a great artist. : D
I think all people should have dreams. If not realistic ones then unrealistic ones, it doesn't really matter. I'm not a religious person but if you always have your feet on the ground your soul can never fly.

Taas kerran mun täytyy kysyä itseltäni, että "miksi en ole löytänyt tätä henkilöä aikaisemmin?" Taiteesi=juuri sellaista jota etsin läpi DA:n. On todella harvinaista löytää sellaista taidetta, josta pidän aivan mielettömästi...ja jonka tekijä on kaiken lisäksi Suomalainen.

(dA kun nykyään lähettää viestin aina kun joku mainitsee mut viesteissään - ei sillä että sitä tapahtuis usein xD) Ja suomalainenpa hyvinkin. Orzel siellä mainosti että asun Tampereella, mutta oikeastaan muutin tänne Ikuriin vasta tässä kuussa.

Viljakkala on enemmän kuin tuttu paikka mulle. Aina mökille mennessä ajetaan sen ohi ja joskus jäädään kyyläileen haverin kultakaivosta ihan muuten vain.

Olen kyllä tietoinen että Viljakkala on suosittua ajelemisaluetta, mutta itse en tue kortitta ajelua tai viritetyillä menopelillä kaahailua julkisilla teillä, vaikka syrjässä olisikin. Tiedän myös nimeltä henkilön joka on heittänyt henkensä ajettuaan moottoripyörällä kolarin hirven kanssa sillä alueella.
Mutta jooh, mökkejä siellä lähinnä onkin. Onneksi pääsi ihmisten ilmoille.

Eikös tuo pikkasen kärähtäisi tuommosissa olosuhteissa?
Mutta...hienosti tehty nuo liekit. Ei tartte olla kauhean realistista tai "aikuismaista", jos toimii noinkin.

*Roikkuu kuvan alareunassa imeskelemässä sitä 
Mahtoi muuten käydä niin, että tästä kuvasta puuttuu rutosti höyheniä ja sulkia (ja feeniksiparalta koko siivet) nyt kun kerran upittelit moisen tänne... Siis nuo sulkahöttöset ovat aivan I-HA-NIA! Valostuksilla ja varjostuksilla olet niin upeasti saanut niihin sitä juuri oikeanlaista tekstuuria, ja mukavaa pehmeyttä. Ja ylipäänsä nuo varjostukset ja valostukset on niin syötävän nättejä. Minkälaisilla hermoilla ja taidoilla tehdään noin selkeitä pehmeitä varjostuksia?
Toinen oma herkuttelun aiheensa on kuvan värimaailma. Tirpan sinertävät ja purppuraisemmat sävyt sopivat vallan mainiosti tuohon punertavankeltaisen sekaan. Tyylitellyt "pilvi"tuletkin käyvät tähän kuvaan kuin nyrkki silmään. Kukaan ei ole kieltänyt heittäytymästä luovaksi johonkin tiettyyn asiaan tarkoitettujen brushien kanssa : D
Mä en ole ihan varma, onko pulusen ilme omasta mielestäni ensikatsomalta kauhistunut vaiko enemmän maaninen, mutta ei se siltä näytä, että hällä nyt ainakaan kovin kivaa olisi. Pose on tyylikäs, onnistunut. Siipiä olisi voinut ehkä 'pidentää' enemmän yltämään enemmän tuonne yläperän tienoille, ja jalka on hieman liikaa takana, mutta muutoin anatomiassa ei mikään pistä silmään. Pyrstön yläpeitinhöyhenet ja höyhenet muutenkin tuossa selkäpuolella ovat ihanan realistisia, jalka varpaineen perinteisen skuddemainen olematta kuitenkaan mun mieleen liian iso ;D
Torella hieno työ taas vuoden aloitukseksi. Ja sanotaan, että upitteluajankohta oli varsin sopiva, niin sai vähän jotain muuta ajateltavaa kuin mitä tänään on näköjään päässä tahtonut pyöriä.
... Saatan muuten pölliä taustankin.
Peukut pystyyn myös descriptionille! Ketäänhän ei saisi pakottaa eteenpäin (ainakin joissain tietyissä asioissa - toki samaa ei ehkä voida soveltaa esim. koulumaailmaan, jossa on oppimiselle vastahakoinen oppilas, mutta sellainen lienee jo oman keskustelunsa aihe), vaan on itse otettava ne askelet pikkuhiljaa ilman suuria yhteisön/ystäväpiirin/tms. paineita, jolloin tuloskin on yleensä se positiivisin. Toki näin ehkä enemmän taidemaailmasta puhuttaessa joskus voi olla hyvä huomauttaa, että kannattaisiko kokeilla siirtyä eteenpäin. Ainakin omalla kohdalla tuntuu, että sellainen huomautus voisi joskus olla paikallaan, vaikka kyllä sitä tarpeeksi kauan 'paikoillaan jumitettuaan' tulee se tunne, että haluaa napata itseään niskasta kiinni ja potkia itseään eteenpäin

Sulkahöttöset, lienevätköhän sitten noita lenteleviä sulkia vai tirpan omia, mutta kiitos~ 
Tirpassa oli aluksi vihreää, mutta hylkäsin sen saman tien. Se olisi ollut vähän liikaa. Samall hylkäsin kultaiset kuvioinnit siipisulissa, koska ne olis varmaan menneet sekaisin valotusten kanssa.
Ja noh, nyt on sitten pöllötty (tuli typo enkä aio korjata sitä) sekä lintu että tausta. Taitaa jäädä sitten vain tuo perspektiivinsä hukannut nokka.
Hyvä että kuvauskin herätti ajatuksia.
Ja just sitä mä tarkotinkin sillä, että jokaselle artistille tulee joskus vastaan se, että haluaa vaan alkaa tehdä paremmin tai tehdä eri tavalla. Se vain tulee ja sitten se tapahtuu. Mutta sen tapahtumista ainakin mun osalla vain ja ainoastaan hidastaa se, kun joku tulee sanomaan mitä mun pitäisi seuraavaksi ruveta tekemään. En loukkaannu, jos jonkun mielestä mun pitäisi erikoistua lintujen piirtämiseen, vaikkei se ole mitä mä haluan taiteenlahjoillani tehdä lopun elämääni. En ota itseeni siitäkään jos joku sanoo että olisi hyvä jos mä harjoittelisin enemmän perspektiivin käyttöä tai erilaisten taustojen tekemistä. Sitä mä vähän tarvitsisinkin.
Mutta sitten on niitä, jotka näkee asiakseen päättää mitä mun pitäisi tehdä. "Sun pitäis piirtää oikeita lintuja eikä tollasia fantasiaotuksia" tai "Tää työ näyttäis niin paljon paremmalta jos tää olis tehty käsin. Sun pitäis ruveta harjotteleen öljyvärien käyttöö niin susta vois tullakin jotain". Oikeet linnut on kivoja. Öljyvärit on ihan jees työkalu, vaikken niitä oikeen tunnu koskaan hallitsevankaan. Mutta se ei ole kritiikki eikä ohje, että sanotaan artistille kuinka tuo tuhlaa lahjojaan kun piirtää sitä mitä piirtää juuri nyt ja neuvotaan sitten mikä muka olisi parempi vaihtoehto. Mäkään en ehkä pidä oiken extremestä mangatyylistä, mutta jos se on mitä se artisti haluaa tehdä niin tehkööt. Ei ole multa pois.
Joten aika samoilla linjoilla mennään.
