Description I wasn't sure where to put this since it is a technical study done with purely academic intentions, although it is based on an existing work. So.. it'll stay in the fanart section unless someone can tell me what a better category would be.

Before everyone starts flipping out with, "OMG THIS IS JUST A CHEAP KNOCK OFF." comments, let me explain:

Yes, this is a copy of a John William Waterhouse painting entitled "Ophelia (by the pond)" Check out the original here: [link]

Please note that this has not been traced, rather it is a reproduction. I did this because I am a huge fan of Waterhouse's work, and for me sometimes the best way to understand an artist's style is to imitate it or emulate it in some way. I take no credit for the subject matter, composition or anything. Like I said, this was just an academic experiment to better my own abilities. A personal test, if you will.

Also, has been putting out some lovely pieces inspired by Ophelia of Shakespeares' "Hamlet," and I'm afraid I've caught the bug. Hopefully I'll have my own, entirely original drawing of Ophelia to post soon.

Love it, Waterhouse is my favourite artist of the latter Pre Raphaelite movement, Manchester is lucky enough to have a large collection of his works and your drawings are pretty much perfect to those he uses, with the same intricacy and gentleness

You wouldn't believe the number of times I've tried to do a study from this and failed. (It's my favourite painting)

This is so beautiful! You've captured her perfectly.

It's great! I love the details in the body and clothes. The way the face is positioned makes her look quite pretty and delicate.

All of Waterhouse's women are that way: delicate, ethereal and just plain pretty. I tried to capture that in this. Thanks for the comment!

No problem, I remember when I read Hamlet...that does remind me of Ophelia.
