I really like the concept based on the Aztec and Mayan cultures

Only few artists depicted the Precolombian world. I see you took your inspiration in the drawings of the few Aztec codex saved from destuctions ordered by Spanish priests in the XVI century (even for the shoes which were for rich people exactly as there!).
The Maya and Toltec civilizations had disappeared several centuries before Cristobal Colòn (his spanih name).
In France, artist JERONATON depicted the Mayan World in his story "Champakou" published in the 80's. If you are interested, I can send you some samples on a private e.mail box.

There is actually a lot more Precolumbian art in existence than that on the few remaining Aztec codices. I gained more inspiration from Mayan art (hence the glyphs). There are some great examples of Mayan art surviving on ceramic vases and the murals of the Temple of Bonampak. This is also what inspired the art that I have in my gallery folder called Mayan.

i agree with zero, her shoes are awesome.
i also love the ironic concept of the whole theme-- and i already love the theme also!

What ironic concept? I didn't intend it to be ironic.

i'm not familiar with female warriors actually existing in this culture, as much as in fantastical accounts like this one (which i don't even see too often.) so to me, the idea is ironic. but i'm not an expert by any means, so that entire view is subjective.

I'm not aware that there were any female warriors in the Mayan civilization either (although there was a queen of the city state Naranjo, called Lady 6 Sky, who is depicted standing on top of the body of her conquered enemy). However, this drawing is intended to be fantasy, and there are MANY female warriors in fantasy art.

I'm glad you like the picture. I still don't see the irony, when warrior women are so commonplace in fantasy art.

Suit yourself. I guess it's really like apples and oranges how different people appreciate fantasy. I personally find it more elevating to the genre (and to the imagination) to think of fantasy as believable rather than ironic.

Sorry its taken me so long to get back to DA. Fantastic job! I love it! Is there a story to the glyphs behind her?

No, they're not even real, really. I looked at a picture of some Mayan glyphs, just random ones, I don't even know what they said... and I didn't even copy them exactly. This was just my attempt at drawing a background, which is my weakest area.
