Probably my most elaborate painting to date. Not satisfied with a lot of it, but for the amount of time and effort I put into it, there’s no way I’m not sharing it here.

This is Nate the Demi-God, a character for my project Night Child. Some of you might recognize him from a piece of concept work I did years ago: [link] . This is still very much concept work—I was on a deadline for this piece, worked on it for less than a month and it shows. If I had my way, I would have been able to work on it for several months, the tattoos would have been much smaller/detailed, would fit together better, and look much less sloppy. And Nate’s giant derp head would be of normal size.

ANYWAY, if anyone is interested in back-story time, here it is:

In my project Night Child, the Demi are a powerful race from the demon motherland, known simply as “Other Side”. Currently, they are the only beings with the ability to pass through worlds on their own. Their bodies automatically assume the shape of the dominate life form on whatever world they visit (with the exception of their wings, which always stay with them). While the Demi are an ancient race and have immense power, they possess an almost child-like sense of curiosity, and often carelessness. However, they are also extremely sentimental and they pride themselves on their honor and loyalty.

Nate has been fascinated with Earth for a long time, taking it to the point of obsession. He pierces his wings each time he crosses over to our world (and as you can see, there are far too many piercings to count). For a long time, he traversed the globe without caution, sampling the environments, the cultures, and the people Earth had to offer. When his carelessness finally caught up with him, he was left humbled and devastated (would go into more details, but spoiler-town). Since then, he’s vowed to do whatever need be to fix what he screwed up and find his redemption and forgiveness.

The tattoos on Nate’s wings are either events he’s witnessed that stuck with him, or important/symbolic images (some of note: Heidi walking out of a desert in Egypt, the Great Fire of London and a plague doctor watching, Maxwell engulfed in flames and chains, Icarus flying too close to the sun) . As I’ve said before—Night Child is something I do to practice character and world building, basically story crafting. However, if I ever were to turn NC into an actual THING, it would be a collection of anthologies told from the tattoos on Nate’s wings.

Sorry for the , but it’s nice to get some actual story info down every now and then. I’m gonna try to start posting more concept stuff for Night Child and my other original works, it’s been a while since I’ve drawn my OC’s.
