Emily has to be my favorite engine...just because of her design! It's nice to look at her, to watch her big wheel spin. <3

Yeah I wouldn't like Emily half as much if she were a different prototype The Stirling Singles are easily the most beautiful 4-2-2s in my opinion but there is something about inside cylinder types as well, think it's the rate of their slow driver rotation combined with the way they just seem to glide along the rails in an almost eerie manner thanks to a lack of visible moving parts.

Dropping any fanciful notions of her working on the NWR you could perhaps of put her in a NRM story like with the Iron Duke and Rocket replicas but No.1 hasn't been steamed for quite some years.
The other option would be a flash back as with Albert but as the Stirling Singles were withdrawn before Gordon was built a cross over link would be a little tenuous, perhaps an anniversary event could serve as an excuse for the GNR engines to be united/reunited.

my theory was that she was inniatially builted as a replica for the British Empire Exibhition in 1909 but she only completed in 1911 due to the lack of founds, later she was bougth by S&M for express serviçes running from Grovan's Gate to Barrow, with the formation of the NWR in 1915, she was passed down to the GNR but only for a few months, as WWI ended, Emily was given to NWR but in 1928 was bougth by the LNER and given to the NRM, and later in 2003 she finally returned to Sodor were she's become a permanent resident. what you think of my theory?

I'm not sure what to say to that as your version is such a different take on events.
Even if the S&MR were better off finically and they even managed to complete their tunnel and get a bridge across the channel a Stirling Single wouldn't be massively suitable for such stoping trains as they were racers and also probably would be too heavy for their track unless it were upgraded.
The replica notion isn't entirely implausible as the Caledonian's 123 Single was a very unlikely one off but with the 1909 exhibition there were still a number of Stirling Singles left which could of been polished up, but by then of course they were in their decline.

I wasn't trying to be critical, the amount of things this Limey still doesn't know about Britain's railways could fill several libraries
I've had another look since you opened a new account just now and many are to my liking but I have a general rule about not favouring uploads with watermarks as it spoils them.
Oh btw I did make a start on studying the Stirling Singles on behalf of someone and to ultimately serve a future modelling project if it's of interest, just scroll down past the Ada, Jane and Mable stuff.

Well thought you might like to see some of Ivatt's domed updates of Stirling's design Not sure if you know but Patrick Stirling had a brother James who was the CME of the SER. It's hard to find many pics online but his handsome F class had a passing resemblance to the Singles, except of course they were slightly smaller 4-4-0s. Anywho one of those slightly more modern designs might be a good alternative to Emily, been meaning to photoshop one actually.

Aye I recall, fine looking engine. The updated version didn't look as elegant nor did the umber livery do much for them in my opinion,

but the design itself was beautiful and they did last longer than the GNR Singles so could be worthy of the NWR at a push.

Eh? The James Stirling's engines on the SER were independent from the Patrick Stirlings on the GNR. It's true he did apprentice under him which explains some of the overlapping appearance similarities, but even if it were feasible why would one rebuild a 4-4-0 into a 4-2-2?

Preserved or otherwise there are plenty of Victorian and Edwardian beauties out there I admit but there's always something about the 4-2-2 Stirling that seems to give them that edge over other stylish and sometimes also innovative designs.
Ha yes the technical side of the RWS or otherwise I fully admit does appeal to me more as an older fan but i'm not totally inflexible with the franchise as a whole, happy to cheery pick things from the modern era where it suits

Not quite sure when but the fine oil painting was done by the now diseased artist Colin Verity some years ago. I altered the livery hue as it was quite yellow and of course added an Emily face but other than that it's just a bit of touching up here and there, do love how imposing the Single looks thanks to the low persecutive and the undefined length of its train.

But it's well done. In my opinion the Stirling Single is a beautiful engine. Maybe that's one reason why Emily is my fabourite female engine.

Aye it might well take the prize for the most beautiful class. Emily arrived after my time of watching the show as a kid but unrealistic as her being on Sodor is I do have a soft spot for her due to her prototype, got a 4mm NRM model of No.1 on it's way as soon as the project is finalised

When I started watching the show she had already been in that. I didn't know that time which class is she, but liked the design. She and Gordon became my two favourites. I was impressed by both of them.

Like many others her personality has fluctuated considerably over the seasons but I was quite liking her more level headed/big sister depiction in this season and i've still got the the winter eps to go
I'm trying to concentrate more on modelling at the moment but I really must see about getting that Gordon and Emily edit off the ground, so many un-started and half finished ones in limbo

It's just a publicity photo taken in 1925. The two engines were first placed along side each other in 1922 and the Single was also rolled out when the H4 (K3) class was introduced, the large Atlantic class as well I believe (all taken at Top Shed close to Kings Cross where the preserved engine was housed for several years).
