Oh me, too! I ended up reading it in huge chunks. I had to drag myself away for a breather at times. What a roller coaster ride it took me on! But every time I sat down to read a little more, I simply couldn't put it down. Now I'm all caught up and am waiting with bated breath for more! In the meantime, there's fanart! XD

Very nice, I wonder what Mikey's writing about? An ode to hoverers, perhaps?

Let's just say i understand why Raph would be so pissed at him.

Is it the part where Raph confronts him about writing their own story? I honestly understood where Mikey was coming from with that- it was his way of dealing with the past. Raph really had no right to condemn him for that- it's not like he was much better- and if he should have been mad at anyone, it's himself. Oh, wait- that's Raph all the time....
Β
I never saw it as any sort of betrayal- who'd ever believe it anyway? Raph should have just taken it for what it was: a form of catharsis and letting go of old demons. Mikey's creative and emotional nature almost demanded he tell the story to someone- and what better way than to write a book about it?

Heh, i dunno writing and profiting off family trauma isn't something to be taken lightly. I, myself, have struggled with it and have decided it's best not to go there.Β
It's one thing if you keep it distanced from actual people and events, but its another thing to hit the mark too close - even Mikey realized he had gone too far at one point - and was filled with remorse. And he wasn't able to heal himself until AFTER he realized what he'd done was wrong - only when he embraced all the aspects of his past and accept them was he able to become whole again. Writing those stories was him running from it - making it more like it happened to someone else.
But I'm also enamored with Raph in this. I think the big guy is misunderstood. So, Β i may be a little biased! XD

And yet so many people do it all the time, writing books about their personal lives and experiences and exposing the dark skeletons in their families' closets. It may seem kind of selfish and like simply profiting off of a family trauma, but for most, it's all about being heard and understood.
I'm not sure I see it as necessarily wrong, especially when seen as part of the healing process. Yes, he pissed off Raph (and probably the others too) by doing it, but it also helped him work through his own "demons", and honestly, Raph getting that ticked over what was billed and published as a work of "fiction" (never mind that it was all true- no one else would ever know that or even believe it!) seemed way overboard, IMHO.
I think most of Mike's guilt over it came from knowing that his brothers would be pissed when they found out- but he did it anyway, simply because he felt the story NEEDED to be told. He believed it was something he had to do to find peace. And he did, in the end. No matter how much it hurt his family, he felt it was a "necessary evil" to purge that part from his life and move on- and the fact that it became so popular didn't hurt, either. (Plus, IIRC, didn't he use fake names, anyway? He still protected their identities even though he basically was writing his memoirs.) And only the last one was even true- all the rest were purely fiction and simply BASED on some of the events in their lives.

Mine probably wouldn't even care. But then, most of my family doesn't do much reading. My mom would probably just be proud that I had something published, though, LOL! Yeah, I can kind of see Raph's side, but then he's known for getting bent out of shape over even minor things, so it doesn't really surprise me. And yet- April and CaseyΒ seemed fine with it, even though they were in it too. Makes one wonder just how bad it really was? I don't think he would have made them out unfavorably, Raph probably just read some things about himself he didn't want to see....

I think it might have been better if Raph HAD read it - he got upset just from the IDEA of Mikey profiting from their family's pain and history - maybe if he read it he wouldn't have felt quite as riled up.Β
