FINALLY.

This started out as an exercise in figure drawing. I drew the boy, decided he wasn't interesting, and gave him wings to compensate for his un-interestingness. After I completed my sketch, I thought the boy had turned out rather well, and decided to give him some color in order to further his personality. Upon placing the drawing in photoshop, I realized that since I suck at backgrounds, I might as well practice some and give this boy somewhere to sit.

LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT WOULD RESULT IN MONTHS OF AGONIZING OVER MINISCULE DETAILS IN SEVERAL GARGOYLE STATUES.

Then I decided to put in some rain and... well, yeah. A simple sketch managed to transform into this monster of a digital painting. The background was actually going to be larger but I took pity on my suffering wrist and cropped it down some.

I really love how this turned out, despite some minor errors in coloring. I learned a lot about shading and depth in this picture that I (hopefully!) will incorporate in future paintings.

I imagine this angel-boy to be reflecting upon his past deeds amongst the petrified demons on top of a long-deserted church. In the midst of a storm. Because it's symbolic and all. ;o

I estimate maybe 20 hours put into this painting.
