Description Song is 6& 1/2" to the tips of her crown.

She is excited to be growing her beautiful new horn!
A coming of age for her people. But there are growing pains to endure!
I was amped about the concept of a horn that grows out of a fissure at the pituary gland rather than plunkled on top of the head.
I reasoned as a child a race of unihorned people would be hornless and they would sprout, with headaches and some blood as the skin splits. Slowly throughout adulthood the crown grows shut.

I used a new paint method on this. I painted precure. Pushing the brush into the paint and clay to make a skin texture.

This is another piece by the lovely Sleetwealth that has blown me away, literally! Her sculptures are unique, well crafted and always stunning. This is no exception. The story that goes along with this precious little girl only furthers the impact of the photo. Small details like teeth and bumps on the still growing horn make it well worth the time to look. My only qualm is something small and trivial, sometimes the painting is a bit off on very small parts, such as her chest. But even with that I had to look quite hard to find /anything/ wrong with this beautiful sculpture.

You never cease to amaze me!

Thank you for taking the time to critique Abou the painting. Do you mean the looseness of the painting on the chest? SOme areas are painted and others are sandes back down to the clay. Such as on the collar bone, chin and nose tip. Do you think it needs more detail to the painting there?

gutterface In reply to Sleetwealth [2009-05-28 00:43:15 +0000 UTC]

I was talking about the lack of color in one area around her collarbones, it looks almost blue or like its lacking color. perhaps a bit more detail there would take away from the lack of color effect?

Sleetwealth In reply to gutterface [2009-05-28 01:41:27 +0000 UTC]

Her neck is painted blue as faux shadows and the collarbones are just the peach color of the original clay with off white scumbled on the pectorials.
Ill add some washes and see if I can improve it.

Ohh see now it makes sense to me, i think i may just be lacking my usual eye for things like that ^^<3 either way dear, i adore the way you paint<3

I did some quick paint on it and took another shot though the light is failing now so, the photo is not as nice looking colorwize. Ill keep fiddling till its smothed out etc
I think you were right that the blue had overrun the chest making it seem unpainted greyish clay.

This is so...bizzare! but captivating too. I find myself imagining her race, her world. Her eyes appear bruised and it looks so painful but I can imagine her family would be proud of her reaching this milestone, maybe they'd be tell her their own stories from when they grew horns, helping to ease the pain with herbs....there's a whole world in this one image.

yes haha. I even though the star pendant was a gift from her gran.
I like to imagine that kind of thing. and of course want others too build their own stories into it.

A little eerie looking, but still beautiful none the less.
The whole idea of it is quite nice, plus, she's very, VERY pretty~
While it may be weird to say, I find that mouth to be really interesting. For one, it seems like the most life like aspect of the whole thing. Plus...It's just kind of interesting to look at.
A very nice job indeed. A DD is absolutely deserved here.

Thank you. I find the mouths most interesting in my sculpts. and I like to show more life or breathe by opening them.
this one didnt have glass eyes so it changed the focal point.

Well yes. though Im mot the first to think of girls with unicorn horns. I think Im the first to think of it growing out of a skull fissure from the pituary gland as a puberty like rite of passage.

This is beautiful. I love sculpture - it's like giving birth to emotion with your hands.. but the painting..? that brings a whole new level in. I've never painted a sculpture of mine, and now I want to.. so badly.

Her mouth is amazing. paint and sculpt!

the only thing that kind of bothers me is how messy the paint looks around her shoulder area..

Very lifelike, also I love the idea of the horn growing as a type of puberty thing. Although not necessarily puberty, I mean it like a significant change to the body which is a signal tp the passing into adulthood.
I also like the fact that like in real life, it would not be a painless experience either. Also the 'crown' is both creepy and cool, I assume that's embedded into her skull? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sleetwealth In reply to Herebellama [2012-09-22 08:35:53 +0000 UTC]

yes I put some lore in to horn growth so it had meaning and seems realistic.
the crown in meat to be a sort of living fungus that works as a natural wound dressing

So it'll go away when her horn has healed? Or will it stay there as an adult?

yes it will wear away when the wounds are healed.
