Anyways, I know that the last part of the sort of 'semi-poem' that I wrote in my last comment didn't completely fit, as a whole I think it got the point across: War is hell, and hell breaks you.
As always, you captured the emotion of a soldier at war, and this time it's the moment when you have seen so much pain and death that you just break. All that emotional and moral turmoil inside you finally smashing through into your conscience. That moment when you think of all the faces, names, dog-tags checked, and eyes closed. You think of their families, their cause, their last thoughts. Your conscience makes you think of them because it wants forgiveness, because there is a part of you that doesn't want to turn into the monster that you need to be to win a war. But to win, to survive, you need to give up you humanity, you need to become that monster.
That's the toll War takes, the price you have to pay to protect what you hold dear.

From the Great War, to the Supremacy War,
From a British Rifleman fighting for his country, to a Rebel fighting for survival,
Every soldier will say the same thing: "War is Hell",
Because War never changes, War is always Hell.
True war crushes you, changes you, as since war doesn't change, it changes you instead.
When you're a soldier fighting a war, a part of you becomes War. In the end, once the fighting stops, whether you won or lost, only one word describes you:
"Monster."
