Description Here's my longterm project i've been working on for like a year or more. Had to stop at some point when texture was complete by 65%, can't remember why. Recently picked her up from archives and finally finished texture.

Still alot to do - character rig, some channel maps for specular and reflections, and some nice render. Gonna finish it in this year i promise :>

I take it you guys are friends or something, based on the trolling comments in everything that he posts?

Because if not... holy hell, you might just be the most annoying person I've seen on Deviantart.

Do You put Your UVW's in such spectacularly flat, rectangular way manualy, or You use some special trick and then only correct it? How long does it take You to put them in such magnificent order? I can't just get out of awe how everythin here is neat. I have alway troubles with humanoid shapes to unvrap them into anything resembling such state.
Best Regards

This is gorgeous! I'd love to see the wireframe but even without it makes my jaw drop! Her character design is ridiculous, and so is her armor. I can't imagine how long you spent on her!

Nice nice, but you make the Uvmaps in Maya or in Deep Paint 3D?

Greetings! : )

could you post the wireframe? please.

I have to see how many poly you used to model this wonderful ass, and other details of course.

Superb work. I'm a games artist myself, and I rarely see work of this quality. I love the fact that you have done it "old-school" - no normal maps or lighting, just 1:1 texture to surface.
Love your uv layout too - kids today with their 'uv unwrap' tools make crappy inefficient layouts, whereas it looks to me like you were quite deliberate with your uvs.
Oh, and the design of the character is fantastic!

martinhoulden [2008-11-22 22:31:57 +0000 UTC]

its really cool dude, but as a confused budding 3d artist, i gotta ask some advice - how'd you get it to all work out so that the bits and pieces fit on the UVs so square without them being distorted on the model?

I looked at the world of warcraft texture maps, and they are insanely efficient. Whenever i try and get stuff that efficient, it always ends up being stretched. Any tips or tutorials you found useful?

I'd love to see a version of this with the polygons laid out

But anyways, amazing work - its always cool to see a great concept artist good at other stuff too

slipgatecentral In reply to martinhoulden [2008-11-22 23:10:16 +0000 UTC]

As long as you use something like Deep Paint 3D, or Zbrush or any software that allows you to export texture projection to Photoshop, distorted mapping doesnt really matters. You just draw texture over a screenshot of 3D model, like you draw any 2D artwork, and import it back to 3D editor, It applies stuff you painted and converts it to flat texture. Takes longer than usual flat texturing , but you can go all crazy with UV layout.

DarkShadowArtworks [2008-11-22 19:04:29 +0000 UTC]

WOW!!

Hoe much time did you take in making the model?... for me it'll take me a month :S

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

slipgatecentral In reply to DarkShadowArtworks [2008-11-22 20:13:48 +0000 UTC]

model itself didnt take too long,
somewhat around 3-4 days to build mesh and apply UV's

the texture is different story tho, slow and painful projection-painting with ridiculous detalisation. I'll never try to do something like this again unless paid well for it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarkShadowArtworks In reply to slipgatecentral [2008-11-22 23:41:12 +0000 UTC]

lol!

In my work I alwas make models like these... took me 2 days (only modeling and Unwrapping) but when we talk about the diffuse map... GOD MERCY! Take too much time.. specially when you use Normal and Specualr maps...

Amazing work I think ^.^
