This is an absolutely superb effect with such a low-poly mesh. But I do wonder: why so much real texture-map real estate wasted on the top and back of her bald head?

Nevermind, I gather from your other posts that this was just an experiment.

This looks awesome! I just got a noob question, hope you don't mind. The hair is a separate object isn't it? Then you attach it, link it or something? If you rig the model, how is it suposed to stay on the head?

Awesome. Very inspiring! Your colours are so smooth and nice! : )

I had one question though: what version of Deep Paint and Photoshop do you use? My plug-in for photoshop doesn't seem to be wanting to load up. Do I have to go back to an earlier version of PS in order for the Deep Paint plug-in to work?

Unbelievable. I'm trying to get into the business (sort of am technically) but seeing work like this just reminds me how very very VERY far i have to go still. Truly inspiring work, and the amount of color present in such a small space is a testament to your abilities. Why, oh why, can I not get a job with an art director ;_; But that's my problem, not yours! Stunning, amazing, awe inspiring. I'm running out of adjectives here...

Wow, there aren't alot of good references for human modelling out there, but what you've managed to do here is nothing short of amazing!I'm only starting to get into modelling myself, and I haven't even been able to touch textures D:

richgraphix [2009-07-23 17:40:08 +0000 UTC]

Not bad! However you could have deleted the tris behind the hair (getting away most of the back of her head) and then scaled up the head UVS for more texture space. But to be honest it doesnt make that much of a difference seeing how nicely you textured it and at 256. I bow before u Did you use an opacity map as a base for your tex, or do u just paint in the shadow?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

slipgatecentral In reply to richgraphix [2009-07-23 19:48:49 +0000 UTC]

yeah I could optimize it by 500-700 tris, but I didn't bother because it was just a texturing practice lesson, not a modelling
No opacity channel here, just a vertex alpha.

I always thought triangles were bad. ;>> My school fails hard then.
Very nice low res model. I would try to mess around with the UVing size some more to reduce some of the pixelation. But overall, it looks great. The texture is very nicely painted.

xalener In reply to snow--skitty [2009-07-23 04:18:26 +0000 UTC]

All models made for games need o be triangulated. This model probably started out with pure quads.

Ah ok. That makes seance.

slipgatecentral In reply to xalener [2009-07-23 07:27:04 +0000 UTC]

yeah, it was made in quads mostly, but thing is , Maya and DP3D has different triangulation algorythms, may cause minor issues on texture.

You never cease to amaze me. Do you ever plan on doing any tutorials of your facial construction or modeling in general? You're seriously my idol for low-res humanoid models. I would really love if you and I could correspond through e-mail or something, tips and tricks-wise.

Thank you for years of inspiration and motivation.

512x512 was original texture and scaled down later but I would not recommend this method

slipgatecentral In reply to Arta [2009-07-22 08:01:04 +0000 UTC]

thanks,
not sure if there's any tutorials about it, basically I use only one feature of it - projection painting, similar to what Zbrush3 got, or Photoshop CS4, so technically it makes little difference.
