Just a dragon and his boy.......that took me two and a half years to complete. One of my New Year's Resolutions was to finish this thing and have it be my first finished piece of the year. And yes, that means I've spent nearly six months drawing...coins...
It nearly killed me. But I am not dead, so I suppose that means I am stronger?
My submission for the Webcomics Tarot Project . Finally. Back when I found out about this project I had this composition idea that I really loved and was determined to do it justice. ...well...I hope I did? (*Luthrai still has some nitpicks ;_; ) Let this be a lesson to you all of the dangers of photoshop. It is so forgiving that you never need to give up! >.>
Thanatos (the dark elf) is a main character in my webcomic, The Prime of Ambition. Kryxxtemordekai (the mud dragon) is a major character-yet-to-be-introduced in the comic so far. Yes, it's on hiatus until my kids start preschool, probably, but I'm still trying to work on it and promote it.
Dragon linework by my co-comic-creator , minus some of the scales.

Wow, the frill markings really give your dragon a boost there. Looks even better.

I know! Such a difference; I can't believe I forgot them! (Well, I can, because all the refs of Kryxxt I was working from are unfinished and do not include them, and in all the months of drawing coins I forgot I was waiting on *Luthrai for a current reference of his markings.

Coins and scales. A lot of them. But I hope you found it worth the work. I think it was.
My impressions without reading other's comments and really unsorted and as they came:
The green leaves in the corner are a good addition to the green of his suit. Green and gold/silver fits nicely (well, hehehe, _I_ _must_ know 
Of course with all this detail the resolution is a bit low. The ornaments vanish a little this way, or the snake-belt.
Hmm, on 2nd look also Thanatos looks a bit strange if he has a lower hanging breast (female) or a belly or just something hidden under his cloak. The pose itself looks good, relaxed, like leaving the cave in the morning for a flight (if mud dragons can fly?). Or like just watching into daylight (oh, well, do darkelves like daylight? or is it sunset?) and pondering what to do on this day. Hmm. Next thought is, just if you imagine classic fantasy pics and knights and stuff you expect all sort of more or less barbaric weapons
Brother-look (scales on his trousers) fits very nicely. The barefeetedness makes him look slightly savage.
Hmm, for realism I'd expect the probably heavy dragon to sink a bit deeper with his claws/feet into the coins. But that might be his magic preventing this.
Well and which of them is now the knight of coins? Drow/Darkelf or Dragon?
At all it looks very fluffy has elf in it so I am happy.
Make more elves and dragons with elves. Yes.

Yes, the resolution is a bit low. I usually post low-res online because I'm afraid of art-theft, but maybe I will raise it a little bit.
The doublet Thanatos is wearing mimics 1500s Italian styles, so the silhouette probably looks a little off to modern eyes.
Mud dragons fly. 
There are no weapons or armor because I was going more for the courtly aspects of a knight than the martial ones. That fits Than's character better.
My elves can twitch their ears yes.
While I only have 1200 pennies that I used for reference and no dragon on hand, I will say that coins actually make a very firm surface, so you wouldn't sink into them.
It is probably safer to say that the dragon is the knight of coins.
I love drawing elves~ My gallery is full of them. But my gallery does need more dragons...

Thanks for the repost and your explanations. Well, I dunno about art theft but somebody just posting this art out of a sudden and claiming it as own work ... oh well. That would be kinda obvious. Especially when the style of the original artist is better known.

Oh gosh the coins... worth it though in my opinion. The composition is great, I love the colors, and Than's outfit and posture is really great. It looks like him and that dragon are trying to show off together.

OMG... The coins! The coins! How is your sanity still intact?
Also, my inner costuming nerd is totally loving Than's outfit. The sleeves! The brocade! The tights! (I also seem to remember that male Drow aren't allowed to wear shoes... Is that why the open toes? Is he sorta pushing the limits of what's permitted here?)
I know you asked for critique, but I honestly don't have any. It just looks beautiful.

I see you have gotten over the codpiece...
Anyway, this outfit goes for the tarot card theme rather than drow traditional dress. The open toes/heels was a compromise of sorts. While livery hose like that really did exist about the fifteenth century (but you'd wear it with slippers), I was more trying to tie in to the other reason that Than goes barefoot, rather than he wasn't given shoes as a child. To me, barefoot kinda gives a visual shamanistic element, ei. primal, ancient wisdom, connection with earth/nature etc. I didn't want to lose that aspect of his character by shoeing him.

Well, I didn't think that this was Drow traditional dress, but it would seem really out of character for Than to wear shoes of any kind. I mean, even if you dressed him up as a modern day businessman in a meeting I would expect to see him barefoot.
Now I have this mental image of Eloise at a desk, on the phone, filing her nails.
