great space, and colors, so natural and alive.
the only thing that could be better imho is the moon - it is too big. i have never seen such big moon. or was it your intention to make it this way?
still great job, i really appreciate it, and this thing will probably be my wallpaper for a longer time i think

Very, very nice, I have always thought the first tg could create perfectly good scenes, but this is so complete and realistic it takes it to a whole new level. Ive never tried tg2 though, the render times are too much to work with, although even though it seems massive, this one is fairly quick. I suppose its water that is the real killer though.

Smattila In reply to TidalStorm [2008-10-28 22:30:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Yeah I guess water and heavy atmospherics can be a render time killer but I read that there will be a some improvement in multithread cloud rendering in the next version. I haven't actually rendered much water scenes yet, just a few with planetary scaled water but that didn't take that long to render so it's probably just the closeups that are heavy

Well I have to say, amazing job.
TerraGen 2 has alot more to it than the old one. Now I just need to figure it out; at this point and time lost is an understatement.

Smattila In reply to DarkTyr [2008-10-22 05:15:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it has a lot more in it than the previous version. From what I understood they build it totally from the beginning

wow I never really had the motivation to check terragen2, seems rather complicated. But damn!! This render is amazing, I can't believe you did that with terragen

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Smattila In reply to ErikShoemaker [2008-10-20 19:51:39 +0000 UTC]

I'd have to say TG2 is competing in a whole new league now. It might be complex at the moment but they are still improving and tuning it. From what I have seen photorealistic stuff with volumetrics is very possible and with skill you can do lot's of cool things with it. It might even be able to take up on Vue in the future, maybe not yet but it's possible

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ErikShoemaker In reply to Smattila [2008-10-22 15:45:02 +0000 UTC]

yeah, your render shows! TG1 is not that good when it comes to environment

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Smattila In reply to ErikShoemaker [2008-10-22 15:51:01 +0000 UTC]

One could say that the way terrain's were created in TG1 is now compressed into 1 heightmap shader node and that's just one of the many things you can do
