Description "Giganta and Uzuki: a steampunk re-imagining" is the actual title I had in mind but DA does not allow enough space for that long a title. Oh well.

In this picture you see Professor Uzuki Kawahara and her companion/bodyguard, the twelve foot tall amazon, Giganta.

Here is the loose story idea I came up with while having this picture commissioned:

Stories of unusual reptilian creatures spotted in the jungles of Brazil come to the attention of Professor Uzuki Kawahara. After a number of discussions with her colleagues, the biologist decides to look into these stories and see if there is any truth behind them. She gathers the supplies needed for the undertaking and sets out for South America.

Meanwhile, a hunting party from one of the local tribes wind up drinking water that is polluted with chemicals from lab that spawned the creatures. The polluted water kills four members of the hunting party, while it causes the final member of the party to become ill. The chemicals cause a strange reaction in the hunter's body and she starts to grow.

A few weeks later, Professor Kawahara arrives in Brazil and after establishing a base camp, heads off into the jungles in search of any proof of these stories. During one of her trips into the jungle she comes face to face with definite proof. She stumbles into a clearing and is stunned by what greets her eyes. A giant woman, clad in a one piece animal skin outfit and wielding a large club, is fighting a pack of what seems to be raptors. The savage giantess has taken one of the raptors out but three more circle her, looking for an opening. Uzuki decides to help the giant woman and between the two of them, they dispatch the remaining raptors.

After the fight, Uzuki examines the giantess and applies first aid to some minor wounds the large woman suffered. Thinking she had discovered a new offshoot breed of human, the professor declares the larger woman to be a member of Homo Sapiens Giganta (large human being.). After a period of trial and error communication between the two women, the large woman refers to herself as Giganta. (Having liked the sound of the name when Uzuki used it.) The newly named Giganta informs the smaller woman that she will accompany her on her quest. So the professor gains a powerful ally and companion on her quest to find the source of these strange dinosaurs.

Wow, that was a mouthful.

The amazing artwork for this picture was done by Go take a look at his gallery. He does awesome work.

Thank you. I blame the decentness of the pic on the artist.

None at all. When working on the character, I went down a list of Japanese female names and picked a few and Uzuko was the one I finally decided on.

Very interesting choice of style for the very classic Giganta

Thank you. My idea for Giganta's outfit was a mix of her original costume (which you can tell by looking at my gallery, is my favorite outfit of hers.), a old carnival strongman's outfit, with a little jungle/cave woman thrown in.
