Description The Full Title of this piece is "Portrait of the Artist as Hester Prynne- State 2" but that doesn't seem to fit in the space they give you here for a title. Aquatinted Intaglio, handcolored.

As with "Faith", I'm not as happy as I could be with the figure drawing but I'm still amused by this one. It's part of a series I started earlier this year called "Reconstruction of Self"-- dealing with the issues I faced with as I found myself unexpectedly single again at age 30. This particular piece was a reference to the fact that when I got divorced, I seemed to lose all my friends. Even those who I still hung around for while refused to discuss what was happening at all. In the Scarlet Letter, Hester is branded with a big red letter A & shunned by the community. In a lot of ways, I felt marked, set apart & very, very shunned because of the divorce. Still, I knew I was doing what I needed to so you can see by the facial expression that while she's alone, she's not unhappy. I like to think that she's checking out some cute guy who's walking past.
