several steps. First you have to take a knife and carve off the very rough surface. After that, switch to a wood rasp to even out the surface. Then use a wood file followed by rough grit sandpaper and fine grit sand paper. After all this, you follow up with steel wool and beeswax for the shine.

It certainly is! The guy commissioned it for his brother's Christmas gift, but after seeing it he decided to commission one for himself!
