Description Hal Blaine ?? Who the hell is Hal Blaine ?? You may not know his name but YOU'VE heard his playing. Especially if you like the sounds of 60s music. Blaine was a music industry giant. One of the most in demand session drum players of the decade. And still continued to be even past the 60s on into the 70s and 80s. Hal Blaine has pounded out the beats on pretty much every major artist of the 60s recordings. He first got his break through on the L.A session scene with Phil Spector's famous 'Wall of Sound' sessions and then later moving on to become the drummer on pretty much every record to come out of L.A in the pop/rock music business. Blaine has also played on many tv show and movie soundtracks as well. Even appearing in movies with the likes of Elvis Presley - who he also played with in the studio. Blaine has played with the following artists - The Beach Boys, The Monkees, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, 5th Dimension, Glen Campbell (who was also a session musician), Henry Mancini, The Association, Simon & Garfunkel, The Carpenters, The Patridge Family, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Buckinghams, Neil Diamond, John Denver, Barbara Streisand, The Byrds, The Grass Roots..... the list fucking goes on and on...... Even though The Beatles recorded their own material, Blaine has even managed to work with all 4 Beatles individually on solo projects.

Later he and a bunch of other fantastic musicians who were also responsible for most of the 60s music were dubbed The Wrecking Crew. Blaine probably being the leader (meaning he played on the most recordings).

P.S.. Thanks for mentioning The Wrecking Crew (or as the truly amazing) Ms. Carole Kaye calls them, 'The Clique.'

Not only do I know Mr. Blaine, I'm a good acquaintance of Mr. Spector.

I am always pleased as punch to see when someone - such as you - knows (and I believe appreciates) the people who - through their hard work - have made some of the most import music of the past half century.

It scares me, because I see more and more people - 20-something, and down - who are literally 'dumb.'

They really are clueless about ANYTHING that isn't 'now,' din't happen 'now,' etc.

Only by learning from what HAS gone does society move ahead.Β

"Knowledge IS power,' such a simple - yet true dictum, yet, it seems more people than ever are messed with ephemeral bullshit.

As I said, it scares me.

But, seeing this, and reading gives me hope that there ARE some sparks (me, I'm late 30's, but, my music collection is vast - over 20k records, and about 10k CDs,and loads of reel-to-reels - most from the late 50's, early 60's through to the mid 90's, when I think music really did 'die.'

I collect because I love it Β - music does calm the savage beast I collect to share, not to lock away. I'm always thrilled when someone I know shows an interest, and asks me if I'd 'mind' putting together stuff for them.Β

YES, there always are a few nuggets, here and there, but, it seems society in general is Γ¦nesthetised to attuned, soulless crap.

Thanks, for making me happy, and, perhaps for educating - even just one person.

I'm just seeing this comment. Thank you so much ! I'm always glad when I "run into" someone who knows about the 'real' musicians who made most of popular music.Β

The people who don't know about Blaine are LITERALLY dumb, since they've heard his playing numerous times over and over again. I don't care how old you are or even if you like the music he contributed to -you've heard him !Β

Thanks for that write up. Quite interesting. I like how you imply the movement with blurring and such! The Byrds only had the best session folk!
