The crying child survived and became an adult. That adult is Michael Afton. The reason the phone call of FNAF 1 was heard during the dreams of FNAF 4 is because the crying child survived and heard the phone call, the only one who listened to that phone call was Michael. So Michael Afton=Crying Child.
This tip (the phone call) was the crucial detail the author of the games Scott said that Matpat had missed in the FNAF 4 vid. It's true!

Death is moot when he has a sister that's able to bring him back form it. The custom night cutscene in Sister location show us that the one reviving Michael is the sister.

great theory, but I stopped paying attention as soon as it said FNaF 4 took place in 1987. I think it takes place in 1983, personally, and the crying child DOES die.

Then you have your own alternative universe instead of the canon one, and that's fine, but it'll conflict with the new games. I have a pretty good idea about where the story is going, so I'll give you a heads up: the next game teased on the FNAF world website will take place between the 90's and FNAF 3. Just ask yourself, why didn't Springtrap take action before? He wasn't sealed in the room because the sealing took place while phone guy was alive, and he died in FNAF 1.
