Description So, this was a session I took to try to mediate an indifference and a lack of critical thinking and questioning of all the information we are fed today. Sadly, I think that one has to be questioning media constantly, I've many times been disappointed with mass media when I've found them not fulfilling their purpose - their responsibility.

So, don't swallow it all!

Great photo and it actually works wonderfully with what my media studies class has been talking about all day with becoming media literate and more critical about what we see and hear in the media and the pop culture that is constantly shoved down our throats day and night.

I think that people don't really understand the power media holds, and that they don't understand how affected they are, I think that increases the power of mass media. It's scary, how easy it would be to manipulate an entire nation.

Well check Hitler. Everyone freaks when I bring this up, but he was to be admired. Not for what he did to the Jewish people but come on. The man rose from literally nothing, took over a nation with just his words and managed to overthrow almost all of Europe and if he had finished pushing through with the army instead of going in through the air and then gone after Russia he would have most likely succeeded.
Scary though, but he didn't have to use anything more than some proper timing and eloquent speech.

The media does the same thing and you're right people don't believe they're affected. A guy in my class spent the semester saying "Oh, it's just a picture, it's just a movie, it's just, it's just...you're reading too much into things." He didn't see that he was completely brainwashed by the ads in front of his face and he was defending them.

Oh! A newspaper editor - interesting. I study media, photography over here in Sweden, and we have some courses about media. (Media communication, media knowledge, media production, etc.) I find it interesting, and I'm truly disappointed with the media in Sweden, because they don't really hold their responsibility. How is it over there? Have you got any opinion on media?

Well the newspaper i work in is one of the last independent newspapers of the island, so much so that it is actively boycotted by the government (we get almost no advertisements from them, while the other newspapers get millions worth of ads)and the major lobbies of the island. That being said, it is clear (in the editorial tone of the newspaper) that we are against the actual government and that we are throwing our weight behind the opposition. I like to believe that it is how a newspaper should work, as in always being critical of the powers that be, as long as the criticism remains constructive. Still, true independence is almost impossible since you always depend on publicity to generate revenue, so in a sense, you always have to please... In real life, there's a fine line between constructive critism and biais and most poeple mistake one for the other... I try to remain unbiaised but i'd be lying if i said that i always manage to do so...
